I can't tell you what it is but since no replies yet I'll at least pass on what little I can.

In my '88 I used to get a beep when I locked the door from inside and the passenger lock actuator didn't take the passenger side lock down all the way for some reason. Not sure but I think that there would be a separate CPU even on cars back then to control things like this and anti-theft and other non-engine related stuff. I think your beeps are realted to something like that rather than running/driving issues.

When adjusting clutch could you have hit some wiring under the dash, maybe for something controlled by the CPU?

Interesting, have to admit that I've found a few answers over there myself. I had never had any beeps for mechanical issues on either of my 2nd gens, but they were both low mileage. Never had any sensor problems with either of them come to think of it.

It would be good to have a "beeps" reference in the FAQ.

The beeping 9 times out of ten if from the power steering computer, if your wheels is misaligned that it will give you the 5 beep code.

I forget what the others are, I always got the 4 beeps, something about the speed sensor in the pump?
