How fast is the starter in a 13B supposed to wind the motor up? I'm starting to believe my starting issues are related to a fading starter. It sounds like a turbine winding up (slower than on my piston cars) and also winds down slow. Almost sounds rough like a bearing going bad. I've tried to listen to a few clips of an rx7 starting on youtube, and they sound much more normal.

What year is the car? There known to go bad after a while. Just pop a new one and and your all done. That or resort to push starts.

Its a 91 NA. Is it difficult to access? I've been told I can go have it tested for free. If not, I'll see if I can get my wife to push me around till it starts she'll like that.

if its just a slow start i'd test the battery first, normally starters just stop working, rather then just slowing down. that said it could be your starter, battery is more likely from your description i think.

Battery is brand new as of 2 days ago, so I know that it is good. It seems like the car almost wants to start here and there as I'm cranking it. Also, I've noticed when I have tried to start it, the starter cranks fast... after a 20 second pause, I crank again and now it is noticeably slowers... wait another 20 seconds, it cranks a little faster again. Not very consistent speed wise.
