How much backlash is there suppose to be between the pinion flange and the half shafts. I have about 5 degrees of it.

Standard backlash is 0-0.1mm (0-0.004") maeasured with a mag base and a dial indicator. PER the FSM

Yeah, I have a large amount of slop in mine too. Feels like crap. We just put a LSD in my friend's N/A yesterday and I couldn't feel any. If it was done with a dial indicator, I bet it would be in the 1mm range.

Now if I could only destroy my LSD, it'll force me to take the time to drop in a fresh one.

I didnt have the FSM, so I called up my buddy that builds rear ends for domestic cars. He said anywhere between .006" and .008" was what he considered good. So i put it together at .007" and it is SLOPPY. When i get around to it, I will post pics of the ring gear and pinion, i hope they are not destroyed...

That is the spec if measure at the ring gear with a dial indicator. I'm talking about the pinion flange backlash without opening the diff.

Mike, if you think it's fine, i'm nto going to touch it, this is potentially opening up a can of worms

ok **** it... i'm not going to touch it. Going to finish off those delrin bushings and remount the damn thing. If it ***** up still I'll pay someone to fix it for me. I just want to move on from this never ending rear end dissaseembly and reassembly

too bad that on domestics you get the yellow paste and a wear in guide that allows for real fast setup. Rotate a couple times ,just match the pics and then check with dial.
