I have an 88 SE RX-7 now the tranny was fine till the other day. It does all the gears fine but if i floor it it slips and you can see that the rpms go to redline then goes back down to the right place in gear and as long as i dont floor it i can still drive it. I really want to go with a manual tranny. I have access toa lift and a variety of tools including welding equipment. Now for the swap what would i need besides the tranny? I know i have to get the brake pedal and clucth pedal but what else do i need. I have a spare 350 V8 With tranny that is mint and i was thinking if it will be too much money to do the swap i can throw the 350 in. Trust me i dont want to I have the higest respect for RX-7's and rotaries but if the tranny wll be like $,$$$ i rather throw in the 350.if i do the swap what drive shaft would i need?

you could get the drivetrain used for pretty cheap. You need the tranny, driveshaft, rear-end and probably half-shafts from an n/a.

Oh and BTW, everyone will flame you for mentioning the 350

yeah, I gotta admit (although I love the rotary), it would be fast as hell, even without modding the engine.

I have built 350's 5.0's 427's and let me tell you that a V8 is an idiots engine. Any one with a $50 set of tools can rebuild a V8. there designed in a way that is kind of fool proof. I bought my 88 SE for $600 runing and before i bought it i only had an idea of how a rotary works. Now I see that the potential is endless for rotaries, but they are also very unforgiving and 1 unforgiving mistake can easy cost you another $2000 for a rebuild. I would love nothing more that to drop a TII motor with a 5 speed im my car cause once you drive a car with boost(Test drove the new SRT-4) it is addictive. right now my cars tranny is about blow and i need to make a decission. Drop in the V8 with a nice 5 speed or put the 5 speed to my NA S4 13B.

I still havent gotten any info on the extent of the 5 speed swap and what it would take to do it.

According to the Strawberry Shortcake loving bicycle seat sniffer, it should only take a case of Heineken, dawg. Fer reel.
