what do i need to change my trans from auto to manual?
You need a manual trans, first of all, then you need the remaining components of the system; clutch resevior, slave cylinder, clutch pedal assembly, shift boot assembly, etc. and a shitload of time and patients.
is that all of it. sorrow rpmwarz is trying to find the stuff so i need to know everything. is the flywheel the same??
im not sure on the flywheel, but if the counterweight is different from auto to manual, my guess would be the flywheel will be different also...
ok thanks. ok everyone keep replying please
Pilot bearing and seal.
ok thanks

For ******* real, why did you put a ****** pony in your avatar, i'd a put a pic of that rag top you have instead, what the ****? |
need manual tranny flywheel.... personally unless you never plan on selling car don't convert to manual tranny. you will not get the $$$$ back on your car :(
i really dont care about getting the money back. And why are you guys hating on the avatar? Slater was awesome, and my little pony is cool too.
oh my tranny is about to go out
you can get a used auto tranny for $100 if you look around https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR
well sorrow rpmwarz was talkin about his friend who and a junk yard and had a trans. so i was looking at that one.
auto trans' cars don't have flywheels.
are you sure they dont have flywheels, i could have swarn i saw one when i tool off my starter.
they got what you call a flexplate. its thinner than flywheel and bolts to torque converter. it has ring gear made into it for starter. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/mellow.png

You can keep the A/T counterweight and get a lightweight flywheel if you don't want to get a M/T flywheel. The pilot bearing and seal will be required, as well as a M/T with a clutch, pressure plate, and T/O bearing. The M/T driveshaft will also be necessary. I think your car has a 3.9 rear. You could switch to the 4.1, but it's not necessary. Don't forget the shifter, shifter panel, and starter, as well as the pedals, slave cylinder, master cylinder, clutch hose, etc.
The M/T won't bolt right into the frame because the rear mounting points are different. So you'll need to make a new mount out of some angle iron. I once bought an 86 parts car that was converted from auto to manual, and I noticed that the frame didn't seem to have the holes in the same spots as the M/T cars. Either that or the guy had used an earlier style transmission in the car. The 89-91 A/T cars have a computer controlled transmission. So you'll have to deal with the wiring issues for the switches, etc. The diagrams can be found in the factory manuals, which you can download at http://www.fc3s.org . I'm sure that there's alot I left out, but it's a start. |
ummm maybe ill just get an auto. hehe
Ok here is the deal...
I got a 87/5 speed tranny.. 90 peddles.. clutch master.. flywheel I recommend you getting a clutch kit..with the throw out bearing...pliot bearing..disc..pressure plate.... yeah find out how much then i can say that someone else quoted me that price if its better than what i get.

I did a conversion on an 86 took me a while but the biggest problem I had was that I forgot to jump out the neutral safety switch and couldnt get it running I eventually bought a manual wiring harness. Had to build extensions for mounts because the body mounts are in different place. I would do it again if the car was special ( mint, upgrades, nice paint, good stereo install, you get the idea) but otherwise buy a manual with a blown engine strip your car and put your engine in the "new" car, sell the parts maybe even come out ahead!
CURRENT PROJECT: 10TH ANNIVERSARY UNDER 10 SECONDS parts: big j bridge housings, race modified eccentric shaft, race bearings, hurley 3.5 mm duplex seals, hurley apex oiling system, NOS setup, t-70 turbo, front mount intercooler, injectors, 4 additional injectors, race flywheel, custom intake, custom cold air intake box, haltech computer with 486 laptop to run it, polished aluminum ( all of it cost me over $2500 includes calipers, rotor housings, trans case, water pump housing, front cover, power steering/ac bracket, you get the idea) clutch that will hold the horses?, subframe connectors? cost: $15,000 THANK GOD I HAVE MASTERCARD! |
