I hoist it up onto my chest, and after it's in I use a jackstand under the rear of the transmission to hold it in place.

It's hard to lift it too high when the car is only about 18" off of the ground. :P

man i've got you all beat here on the trans installation method





some rope through shifter hole, around rear of trans:

piece of wood, wrap rope around wood tightly, rotate wood pulling rear of trans up til it touches

torque tunnel, then C clamp rope to wood:

The nice thing about this method is it makes it alot less weight to support while under the car lining it up with the engine, and theres nothing in the way of your legs supporting the trans that you might kick out or just get frustrated by... However, using this method the rear will be a bit lower relative to the front (not level with the car like when installed) but I had an engine hoist attached to the front of the motor only pivoting the motor back into the car, which made things line up beautifully.



That skateboard comes in handy too :unsure:

 

jeez peng your a maniac!! my friend and i actually have to change my friends clutch and flywhee on his 89 TII. we are not looking forward to doing it.....

 

ahha i've done it twice now in my driveway on jackstands, it's a piece of cake. I had alot more trouble changing my differential actually. But that was because of huge amounts of sleep deprivation and just plain stupidity. After giving up day #1 and taking some rest, it was done in 1 hour with a fresh mind next morning... ******* 'shortcut' ideas that end up making things impossible, I won't go into details

 

I'm way too small to be doing that kinda ****.

 

I just used a floor jack to get my tranny in...it was loads of fun.
