I may be getting an e-fan from a Taurus (from a friend, for free ), and I'm wondering if it will require too much of my stock alternator to run. The stock FC alternator puts out 70amps, and the Taurus fan takes 30apms, if I remember correctly. Do you think I'll have a power shortage with the Taurus fan or should I be fine? I don't have any extra power-sapping goodies like beefy stereo equipment or the like. Thanks.

You should probably make sure all your grounds are good and maybe add some extra ones. I don't know how much the alternator has to spare but if its old and tired it probably won't handle it well. I personally have an FD alternator on the way for my 87 Sport but I don't plan on dropping in an e-fan any time soon unless both my clutched fans die real quick.

Yeah, I'm redoing all the grounds in the car while my motor's out, but as far as I know, the alternator's the same beast they put in 16 years ago, so maybe I'll look into getting an FD alternator. Do FD alternators put out more amps or is it just that they're newer?

the fd puts out more amps. i had a charging problem on my fc, and it turned out not to be the alternator, but the battery cables were bad.
