I just ordered up the new engine for my AE. It's about damn time. I have not done too much work on the thing, but here are a few pics of what I have done.

I bored out the back of the housing and I'm making a sleave to put in there, and I'm going to run a divorced internal wastegate. lol. I might try to rig up and external wastegate, still pondering the idea. I've just been screwing around with the turbo, I don't care how well it works I'm going to be going T04 this summer.

Oh, the paint is just rattle can; rust-oleum metalic paint. Thanks for the positive feedback.

Must paint manifolds on black t2...... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

Looks good!

wow!

ILUVMY88CABRIO 02-11-2004 09:05 PM

I was going to polish everything, but after starting on the compressor housing, I gave up and decided to just paint everything. It's a whole lot easier, and your arm doesn't hurt when you're done. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

ECKO1980 02-11-2004 09:11 PM

Thats awsome kraig! When are you going to get your engine?? just give me a call when you do I wanna help since you know my car wouldnt be on the road with out your help! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Rotaryman88 02-11-2004 09:59 PM

Looks good man...did you step out to get some oxygen after all that paint,lol...

...keep it up.

Oh..and revvin..yes..I DO DARE SAY that all polished looks a BIT too much..gotta mix it up sometimes...bling doesn't make you faster...unless you have a honda.

What about just the UIM/LIM, compressor housing, heat shield, alternator, and radiator? Is that overkill?

Not at all...

but all polished manifolds, housings, front cover, alt, pulleys,ic piping, etc is...

i just have a polished UIM, painted LIM, ...polished compressor housing and the rest is aluminum that just looks nice ....

I just dont get polishing an engine bay to the max when the car is driven on the street ...

Dramon_Killer 02-11-2004 10:15 PM

What color did you paint your LIM? I started my UIM and decided not to do the LIM because it looked way too hard. I might paint mine too.

teknics 02-11-2004 10:31 PM

painted mainfolds and **** = 1337.

mine are going to be all black onc ei begin my project.

I did mine in blue...my engine bay scheme is blue and polished/AL look

this is the best pic i have of the LIM back a few years ago when i first did it..now that i've got some miles on the motor..it still looks good, but has to be cleaned up to really shine..which is a bitch...i'm thinking of pulling it back off and repainting it, then putting a nice 500degree clearcoat on it...dunno yet...

FrestyleFC3S 02-11-2004 11:33 PM

wtf is that ACV doing there?!

i actually bought gunmetal type color spray today to paint my manifolds and tb and stuff

Rotaryman88 02-11-2004 11:46 PM

The ACV was on there for about a day...i have no idea why i put it on..i was drinking/tired and just assembled things as i grabbed the next gasket,lol...

trust me, there are NO emissions on my motor..and being that the manifolds are all from my old jspec...they didnt even have some emissions **** to start out with...

That looks really good.

BigTurbo74 02-12-2004 03:32 PM

got a question, when you painted the tb and what not did you have to uninstall all of the levers and springs so that they wouldn't get stuck to each other or did it just work out without any problems? looks very nice, makes me think about what color i'm gonna paint my next engine..

FrestyleFC3S 02-12-2004 07:02 PM

just tape the openings with masking tabe....

dunno about the springs though...hrmmm

89 Rag 02-13-2004 12:53 PM

I disassembled the TB when I painted mine, however, I just brushed the springs, cable holds, etc. (sorry no pic) Testors model paint w/ penetrol and some flex additive seems to work well. When applied w/ a brush it easier to keep the paint where it belongs.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 02-13-2004 07:18 PM

I didn't bother pulling all of the **** off the TB. I just painted a bunch of light coats. And when I flipped it over to paint it from another direction, I wedged a peice of plactic holding the throttle open so the linkage was in a different position. Seems to have worked, the throttle plates don't stick at all. it snaps shut nice and quick.

Here are some pics of the sleave I made to make an external wastegate. I damn near cut the tip of my finger off making it. Whoops. LOL!

Nope! It is a one-off type of deal. lol https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png Maybe two, if Travis is lucky. It is meant to inspire all of you to go make your own.

Damn, what did I start....

Next thing I know everyone is going to have painted intake manifolds. LOL!

FrestyleFC3S 02-13-2004 10:51 PM

i actually bought my stuff before i read the tread

i was in kmart getting a case of castrol and walking back to the counter i passed the paint aisle.... i picked up a can of gloss black and clear coat, i needed to paint my rad fan (for those whove seen it know why i need to*rust*) ...it was sorta an impulse buy just cause it was there

but i decided to paint the manifolds as well....they look good, not amazing but good enough ...theyre temp until i put on my FD UIM and TB
