Now for the good stuff. No more boost creep. This is the hole I had to bore for the external wastegate. Big, huh?
|
I'm almost there with the external wastegate. just got a few more parts to fab up.

i have a feeling if i dont do something quick, hes gonna be kicking my ass on the road :( |
Cool! I was considering doing this same project you are undertaking as I was porting the stock wg hole on the black t2.. I was thinking more along the lines of putting on a bigger flapper door and making the wg have its own little downpipe though, not an external wg.. Oh and the manifolds are painted now https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR

Here is some more ****, hot off the CNC. I've still got some work to do on it still. I'm making a smoked lexan lense to go over the gauges, but under the aluminum face. The face will be painted, or I might make one out of carbon fiber. God, I love working in a machine shop.

Wow! Awesome!
You ever considered selling those panels? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
Yes, I have thought about selling them. I should have a few left over, but I'm not saying that any are for sale, yet. I gotta talk to Phinsup to make sure its cool with him. Oh yeah, they will only fit S4s. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

The wastegate is inspirational. I wish i worked at a machine shop.

wow talk about bringing a post back from the dead!
|
LOL, no ****. That's what i thought.
|
So when do we get updated pics of the project, those last pictures of your manifolds, etc was back in feb of '04...do you still have the car? Is the project still moving forward?
|
Well, since this thread has come back to life, I guess I'll give an update. I got the new engine installed and running in june of 04. The engine was never quite running right, it would flood out every time it was started, and had a rough idle. I had the fuel injectors cleaned but the car still flooded out and had a rough idle. After putting about a thousand miles on the new engine I had the turbo rebuilt and upgraded with a larger copmresser wheel. I took the car to the drag strip it ran a 13.3, I was kind of dissapointed, but it wasn't running very well at the strip. Now the car had about 2000 miles on it I have started to do bodywork on it. Last weekend I replaced the stock injectors with 750 cc injectors and replaced the stock fpr with an Aeromotive fpr. After I installed the injectors I turned on the fuel pump to make sure there were no leaks, and to my suprise, fuel started to come out of the vacuum nipple, a lot of it. So I was pretty happy, I had figured out why my car had been flooding and running shitty for the last year and a half. And I was glad that I already had the replacement part on hand to install. I got everything put back together, and the car started up on the first try. I adjusted the idle and timing, they were a little off, and now the car runs great, I just have to finish the bodywork on it. I will get some pics later.

(chiming in) stock FPR was broken. It will be interesting to see how well it goes now, becuase even with the big ass leak flooding out the rear housing it was still damn quick. It just didnt have the top end it should have. Now with any luck, his car will be working great!
lol.. I hate rx7s :( |
Sounds awesome...should be in the 12s then I would imagine.
What type of bodywork are you doing to the AE? Keeping it original, or going nuts? |
Nope nothing too wild. It just had a shitty paint job, and a few dings.
|
Here is a shot of the CAI I made.
|
Another shot of the CAI.
|
Here is a shot of the engine. I am going to strip off the paint on most of the **** I painted. It chips off real easily, I think I will powdercoat everything.
|
Another shot of the engine, everything is covered with dust from doing the bodywork.
|
Here is a shot of the gauges, ACV-R, and S-AFC
|
Looks good man.. nice job on fixing up that front bumper..you can sort of see what I did to mine in my sig, def not as clean as yours. I've since ditched the stock front bumper though, lol.
I agree with powdercoating..I painted my stuff about two years ago, it didn't even make it through 4 months of my removing, reinstalling stuff before it needed to be sprayed again..it just starts being a hassle. |
Using your car as an example...before I got rid of my stock bumper, I always wanted to just modify the stocker to look something like this... or maybe even enlargen the brake ducts to allow better airflow around the pipes that fill those holes (2nd pic)...

Here is a shot of the gauges, ACV-R, and S-AFC Nice! how about a shot of the whole dash? Also no heat? |
I relocated the heater controls to the glovebox. There isn't anything too exciting going on with the rest of my dash, but you asked for it...

I used some 1/8" aluminum I got from my work, and bolted it into an aftermarket stereo bracket (single din size).
|
Here is a shot of the heater controls. I have not gotten around to mounting it down yet.
|
Lol, slacker...get to making a pretty mount for all that glovebox clutter,lol... looks good though..
|
WOW!!! I just got finished reading all of this. I remember when I was last on here you had just started having trouble with your motor. Can we say that it has been a while. Nice job. I really like what you did with the stereo area and the turbo. Hopefully when I get some more funds I can start doing some stuff similar to that.
