Ok, I jacked up my '87 non-turbo today with the intention of changing out the brake rotors with some nice new ones I bought. I've followed the directions in my Haynes manual - got the wheel off, removed the caliper and the caliper mounting bracket, took the mounting screws out of the rotor...

And the next step is "pull the rotor off". Great, I'd love to, but the damn thing is totally rusted on. I've beat the living snot out of it with a good-sized hammer to no avail. Does anyone have any other ideas? I haven't gotten to the rear brakes yet, but apparently they have a screw hole you can drive a bolt into to force the rotor off - why the hell couldn't they do that for the front too? Arg!

There should also be screws holding the front rotors to the hubs. Have you tried using a prybar while banging with the hammer? When you finally put in the new rotors make sure to put plenty of anti-seize on the inside. That will prevent that problem in the future.

Dang, I was hoping you guys would have a magic cure.

I'm gonna hit Wal-Mart tonight and get a couple cans of some sort of penetrating oil, and a torch. I figure I'll spray a bunch of the oil on it, let it sit overnight, and then heat it and whack it some more tomorrow. Hopefully the driver's side won't be quite as fused-on.

How would you use a press on them?

Be careful. That oil is flammable.
