I want to take all of the solenoids and junk out of there, but I don't feel like taking off the UIM again...especially since the LIM has a stripped bolt hole, so getting the UIM tight is a challenge.
Why don't you try using a thread chaser in the hole?

By the way, do turbos and N/As have the same water pumps?
Both 86-88 NA's and TII's have the same water pump, but the housing is slightly different.
ummm better ask 13BAce..... i don't have a 87-88 to confirm by the look at it test
The 89-91 TII LIM will bolt onto an 87-88 TII motor, but you'll need to use the 89-91 UIM as well.
i figured that..... i have the stock USDM UIM also

What's a thread chaser?

Also, if I go to an S5 UIM, am I going to have to change anything else?

Someone who posts here after every thread.

It's like a tap but not quite the same thing I have one for 14/15mm spark plug holes. I'm sure we could find one.

Isn't too much of the metal chewed out of there to fix the threads?

That works for me...or I could just find a longer bolt. The bottom half of the threads are fine.
