I had my 86 GXL up to around 125 a couple of times. It didn't take too long to get there and still felt like it wanted to go. My brother had up to 135 when he had it in Montana. He said it still wanted to go, but slowed down after he caught a bit of air on a pothole.

If anything, you should wire them open, not shut.
You could try removing the sleeves.

ILuv, how much do you want for the dual exhaust? I assume you mean the true dual advertised on mazdatrix, does that have a deal to open the 6 ports, or do I have to figure something else out for that?
I gained more than 5 hp from my exhaust, more like 20 - 30 hp. But the car is still slow!
< I meant from not running at least one converter, not the whole exaust, and I would still question 20-30 hp from a N/A with only a exaust change

I have the original Racing Beat exhaust too...at least that's what the guy who sold me the car told me. I've had the car for almost 4 years and it's still in great shape...a little loud, though.

The full dual is a REALLY good exhaust.

Quote from Mazdatrix:

This system is the culmination of considerable testing time here at Mazdatrix, using many different designs and pipe sizes. The result is by far the best HP from a bone-stock 86-92 13B non-turbo we have seen. We showed a 28% increase in rear wheel HP on a chassis dyno with this system. Torque is increased greatly from 2000 RPM on up, with the power peaking at 7000 RPM.

It does have a tube comming off the header that opens the 5th and 6th ports. I'm thinking I'd sell it for around $700. It is NOT the complete it from Mazdatrix, I bought my own mufflers, and had a muffler shop weld them up to the flanges I made. I did this to try and save some $, but it only saved me maybe $100.

hehe, see my sig for my feelings on saving money, hmm, 700 eh? that is not a bad deal, what kind of mufflers did you get? if it works, and doesn't sound bad (note, bad, nothing about loud =) ) I may have to take you up on that in a week or two, must save up money, gonna be a bitch to ship it, and along with being cheap, I am broke.

The mufflers are just a couple of "race" mufflers, that I bought at a local rice shop. They are polished stainless. I would really perfer to sell them to someone local because shipping will be a bitch, and it would cost a lot of $$. As for the sound, it's are VERY loud. I made 2 plugs to shove into the muffler tips to quiet it up a little. I think Phinsup is the only person on this forum that has heard the car without the plugs in the mufflers.
