about 5-speed transmissions... i need some help

ok, so the 5-speed that was in my car was ok, but reverse stuck real bad, you had to push hard to get it to go in ... its like it wasnt there, didnt grind gears or anything... just felt like a real stickly place... then you had to push with all your might and then some to get it out of reverse... so i got another tranny and before puting it in made sure it ran through all the gears and i did no problem. so i spend the day putting the trans in (me, myself and i) finally got it done and it wont ******* go into reverse???!!!! i have a short shifter and thought that might be the problem so i put my stock one back in... still wont go into reverse... and then while i have my old transmission sitting on the ground i ran through the gears and it went into reverse just fine!!!!!!!? what the hell... its got a good 5th gear switch, and a new stage 3 clutch and new neutral safety switch.... the only thing different about the transmissions is the new one i got has a what looks like a half a safety clip shaped wire or whatever over part of the hole where the shifter ball goes into... guess its suppose to keep it in place... but i mean why was reverse messed up in both? reverse in the old one stuck like it always had even with old clutch... they both go into reverse no problem when not in the car but... what the hell when there in the car there messed up! i cant think of anything that would make it do this

damnit i just went to go tryin and drive it... the tranny is whining when in neutral and sometimes it whines in intervals if that makes sense... whine-whine-whine-whine.... like with the rpms... and when i put it in 5th gear the reverse lights come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, with the old trany the reverse lights would sometimes come on in 3rd gear... dude what the hell is going on here?! who wants a free car?! im so damn fed up.

bump, i need some help. its 2 in the morning and i cant figure this out. i put a different computer in the car from a junkyard... you think the computer is messing up the signals and turning on my reverse lights when i put it in 5th gear... its like the computer is giving the car the wrong signals... before i put this trans in, i noticed sometimes the reverse lights would come on in 3rd gear and bog waaaay down... now with this new trans it just boggs down in every gear... i mean... should i just set it on fire and put it to rest or what?

sounds like you have the 5th gear switch and the reverse switch backwards.....

i thought i did too... but i swapped the plugs over and nothing... does the same thing. reverse lights come on in 5th gear.
ok what i want to know is why when i have both transmission out of the car i can put the shifter in and it goes into all gears including reverse flawlessly... then when i put either one of the tranny's in the car they either wont go into reverse or are very hard to get in and out of reverse (no grinding, either feels like there is a wall or no reverse there, or you have to push with all your might to get it to go in and it doesnt even feel like it went in but it did...
remember its got a new clutch (but didnot change the pilot bearing) and a new neutral saftey switch

buddy of mine says the trannys wont go into reverse becuae i did not machine my flywheel or put the new pilot bearing in there... but wouldnt that cause the tranny to not go into all the gears? that just doesnt make sense

no it wont go into reverse weather the engine is running or not... it just wont go. i just dont see why when they are put into the car they wont go into reverse but when taken out of the car they go into reverse fine
