well ive got an 89 convertible. usally runs good but now i need to change the themostat. well i lost my manual like a dumbass and need some info. alright first off i went to autozone to get a new thermostat and they gave me a huge one with an oring that sits between the thermostat and housing. so i took it back and got a 88 its the right size. but of course they had no oring. im reuseing the old one now do i need to just set the thermostat on top of where it goes or does it have to be pressed down into the the offset circle. any help whould be greatly appreciated....

it sorta just rests in the little "lip" and then you put it all back together again

First, you need the '89/'91 thermostat. The thermostat will then fit inside the o ring groove. In other words, the o ring will fit around the outside edge of the stat.
