Heres the background on the project, what I've got... what I need. And what I've got no clue on how to accomplish.

I bought the car from a guy who LOVED the Rx. He saw me as an Avid Rotary fan ( Which I will not dispute ) howver, I'm not as knowledgeable as I'd like to be. That said. The motor gave out about 5 months after purchasing the car. So naturally.. I decided I'd do what all of my friends were doing. - A Motor Swap -. But of course..I had to be the oddman out. They all had 240sx's. 1 Coupe and 3 Hatch's. But I never liked those cars.. just... Not quite right. So I decided I'd swap the Rx, being as it needed a new motor and all. So we pulled the motor, and I bought an FD clip, as it would come with everything I'd need... or something like that. So I bought it, and I didnt realize that it was going to be so difficult. Upon learning that mounting this thing was going to be a pig, I bought the Fc-REW mounts from Mazdaspeed7. Ahh.. One hurdle out of the way. Oh.. Whats that? Oh Yes. Someone decided it would be a good idea to check and re-check the vac lines. So I followed their recommendations, and I started replacing all of the Vac lines with silicone lines. Somehow, I broke off a few of the selinoid nipples, and had to track those down. Got those now. Somehow I broke off a nipple from the Turbo elbow pipe, and the vac canister on the engine it self. Then ( While I was changing the spark plug wires ) had someone run up and pull them off of the motor. And now I THINK I have them right.

All in all, I believe everything that can go wrong with my swap has gone wrong effectively. My accel cable was snapped. the guy I had help me pull my motor cut my clutch line. I guess I should be thankful that my brakelines are still in 1 piece.

I've got quite a bit of money wrapped up in thei quaint little disaster of a project car that I can only dream about driving.

And so... I've got a driveline coming tomorrow, and I'm de-powering my steering rack in the morning as to accomidate the lack of powersteering that I'll be allowed with the REW.

I'd like to get my AC back at some point, but I'm not 100% sure how to go about that.

Now for the icing on the cake. I spent so much money elsewhere I cant afford an aftermarket ECU, so I'm stuck with the FD one or the FC one.. and since the FC one wont run the REW properly... I've got to come up wtih a way to wire the FC chassis to the FD ECU. I've got ALL of the FD wiring, And I've got MOST of the FC wiring.. all the stuff going to the motor was Sawzalled off. I know.. not smart, but hey.. who ever said rednecks with powertools are smard ( No - I'm not talking about me )

So I guess in retrospect, if I was to do this again, I'd go a little slower, and make sure I only brought people that were familiar with doing things right into the picture.

I'll be posting pictures of what I've got and where I'm stuck for a while.

!st update will come in the morning. When I re-tackle the vac issue.

Why dont you run a megasquirt for fuel and stock FC ecu for timing? I ran like that for a while on my big SP 6 port motor. With the stock ecu running timing only, you dont need the AFM hooked up, or any of the emissions stuff, just the bare essentials: TPS, map sensor, IAT, coolant temp, and CAS. Ive got an extra megasquirt v2.2 I wouldnt mind parting with, you will just have to make a harness.

Otherwise, Id take get a copy of the ECU pinouts from the FD and the S5 n/a FC, and put them side by side. Go down whats on the REW engine harness, and mark it off the FC diagram. Whats left is what you need from the fc harness.

Okay.

How much do you want for the Megasquirt?

Will the FC ECU run the REW's timing?

I've got copies of the ECU pinouts, the FC one is clear.. The FD one isnt as clear. So... Are you suggesting that I splice the FD wiring harness into the FC clip and just plug it into the FC ecu?

Like I said in the post above, I'm very new at this sort of thing. I jumped in WAY over my head.

I just took some pictures, I'll post them up in a few.

The timing on the S5 n/a ecu is pretty conservative, so I wouldnt worry about running low to moderate boost on it with decent fueling. Basically, just use the stock harness/ecu from the GTU, and leave the afm and injector clips, and O2 sensor unplugged. Or you can delete them alltogether. Then just run the megasquirt controlling fuel only. You dont have to worry about fuel cut, or the rev limiter, or any of that stuff b/c it is all implemented on the fuel side of the stock ecu. Thats exactly how I was running my 10k rpm streetport.

Or, if you decide to use the stock REW ecu, heres how to address the diagrams. Start with the pin-out from the REW ECU. The ecu is the center of the universe when it comes to the engine. Everything has to make the ecu happy in order for it to work. So make sure everything going into the ecu is as it would be on the FD. There are 3 plugs going into the ecu(FC, I think the FD is two), one of which will be where the chassis harness connects to the ecu. This is going to be where you would have to do the work. Match the corresponding wires and splice the chassis wire into the FD plug in the appropriate location.

Its been a very long time since I have messed with it, so I dont have any of the details fresh in my mind. Specific questions will be a lot easier for me to answer than a general "how do I do it."

Personally, Id go with the megasquirt route. The stock ecu on the REW is only good for stock power levels. Its speed density, and cannot compensate for increased airflow. Also, with the megasquirt, you can leave the stock wiring intact, and only have to deal with wiring the megasquirt.

I forgot to ask this the other day, but what starter do I need to use to clear the motor mounts? I installed them today with the REW starter, and it wont clean. I'm not sure if I have them on backwards, but it just doesnt want to go on right. I guess tomorrow, I'll switch them around.

Pics coming soon.

You have them on backwards, they should be facing toward the front of the engine.

Now you tell me. LOL.. I figured that one out today, When I mounted the motor up like that.I was like WTF - Oh yeah.. I used to poke Smot.

Anyways... PICTURES!

More random pictures of the swap in progress - I dont know how I'm going to get the tranny mounted, Can I use an N/A tranny mount and crossbrace on the TII tranny?

You need to put the rubber engine mounts from the fc back in before you install the engine with my mounts. Looking good though, cant wait to see it all together and running

Oh yeah.. The motor is in. Unfortunatly, I've got to get a different transmission as I've got an S4 tranny and I cant get it to bolt up. So, Thats the newest set-back.

Pics of mounted motor coming soon, hopefully tonight.
