Before I start, I live in upstate New York where it has been freezing or below freezing for about the past two weeks. And I started my car today because we are having a heat wave of 23 degrees! Any ways after the car was warmed up( sat and ran for about a half hour) I popped the hood to see if everything was all right, and the reved the engine from the throttle body, as I looked down I saw that the aux. intake ports were not opening. So I asked my dad if he would get in the car and bring it up to 3500, then 4000, then 4500, and finally 5000. They still did not open. Maybe someone gave me false info, but I thought that they opened up at 3500 to 3800 or so. Mine did not. So is it a higher RPM, or could something have gone wrong. Any advice is appreciated.

What part am I going to zip tie open? The linkage between the rosd and the connector? And where to? Also I read that if you do this you will lose low end power, is that so ?

Please don't zip tie them open, you lose low end torque

They should start opening up at 3800-4000 RPM. They are vacuum operated and they get their vacuum from the exhaust. Check your vacuum connection and make sure your actuators are moving freely...

Damn are anyone's atcuators working! This seems to be widespread right now.

Good luck man Keep us posted

Like Pengaru, I think you have your terms mistaken, they operate from pressure, the air pump back pressure feeds them the pressure they need to open.

On a S5 the air pump is required and that would be true.

S4's use the pressure in the exhaust system to open, so the air pump can theoretically be removed without disabling the aux ports. Although, the air pump does inject air into the cat thus increasing the pressure in the exhaust, so it may have some impact... wether or not it is significant enough to keep them from functioning I do not know.

I've read before that some people think they open under load. So put some grease or some paper clips (so I've read) on the base of the rods. Go for a drive, then see if the grease/clip has moved. I've never actually done this, and when mine used to work they worked when parked, but it couldn't hurt to give it a try.
