you shouldn't have coolant in oil, moisture will build up if the engine has sat for a while. do a coolant pressure test to check the waterseals as well

Actually, Mazda uses the trailing position versus the leading.

Also, Mazda numbers apply to engines that are warmed up, not cold.

Although not explicitly mentioned, you need to prop the throttle open.

is this technique the same for s4 and 5 (trailing instead of leading)

I wouldnt do the "quick way" for this find your self a dealer or a rotary shop that has a Mazda Compression checker.

We did mine and it looked good but the car still ran like crap. Went to the dealer had them do it with the factory tool and then we knew why it ran like crap.
