now should these numbers match those stamped on the housings and irons?

if not what do they mean?

his was a c series engine and the shaft was stamp 20,mines a d series and is stamped 26

That was me The best I know is the shaft number should match - this is the general concensus. I've now been told the number on the shaft is on one side and the letter is on the opposite side. Look there for the letter.
