I was quoted about $6000 for the extra custom components required to put together a 3 rotor from 2 rotor peices.

unless you have a REALLy good reason for it, it's certainly cheaper to buy an existing 20b motor.

Well, the reason it's easier to buy a used 20B is because if you try and put 2 13B's together you run into the problem of using 2 center housings. which means the center rotor will have a smaller secondary intake. That creates some balancing issues with the center rotor not making as much power as the other to due to the lack of fuel and air that the other two rotors will get.

Also you would have to make a custom front housing to accomidate the extra bolts that would be needed to help hold the engine together. On the 20B there are many essential bolts that go from the front and bolt into the center housing. You would have a lot of machine work to do to get the bolt holes made in the center housing and front housing. Plus you would have to make some custom bolts to bolt it in since these bolts will be used to torque the engine down you need to make sure there are the right size in length.

Now lets talk about custom oil pan, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, engine mounts, oil pickup tube, and don't forget the all important e-shaft that has to be machined to exact precision.

I'm sure I've left out a bunch but that should be enough to swade someone to forget about trying to mate 2 13b's together. Not to say it can't be done, but why would you want to?

Isn't that custom 3 rotor e-shaft like $1,000???

That doesn't even include the two engines you need to make the 3 rotor.

I think that easily beats a used 20B right there...

exactly, its not a matter of being creative, its a matter of the jdm 20b being less money then ANY other option. i looked before i did mine.

I looked into it for my 86... There is a guy in au that makes 3 rotor & 4 rotor conversions based on 13b parts. The problem I had was that it was about us$6000 plus shipping for a 3 rotor conversion parts only, and about us$10000 for a four rotor. I am still looking for a way to make a 4 rotor, but right now I am SOL. the 20b option, while it is not as powerful as a 13b conversion (aka 13j I think) it is by far cheaper (us$3000 shipped), and all of the brackets, etc are easy to get. If you wanted to do this yourself, look for pictures of the 13j. I will try to find some that I have around.

pritty much the "only" additional parts you need are an extra 13b, a custom eshaft, a custom center plate, 1.5 rebuild kits and extra long bolts to bolt the whole thing together.

does anyone know of a place in the US that may have the 3-rotor 13B eccentric shaft? I have a torn apart 88 N/A, with half a good engine and a full rebuild kit.

And did any of you ever need the "tubular dowel puller"? My dowels came out with no problem. Just pulled up. For the front rotor, I just used a large steering wheel puller bolt and pulled up.

Thanks,

Tosh

the tension bolts for the front rotor go forward. the rear 2 rotors use a normal length tension bolt, although for the 20b they are thicker.

Well then Ted, allow me to fill in the blanks...

I'm selling crack, along with parts to build a 20B from 13B shitheap parts!

With any luck the crack will have you running down the street with you hair on fire before any of you actually attempt to waste your cash on this silly conversion idea.

For help with crack addiction please call (503)317-2616, operators are standing by...
