Lets just say, maybe even pretend, that i was driving down a side street and drive by some HUGE house and there is a white fB in their driveway that says "for sale $500." So lets say i knock on their door ask them about it and they say they are going to donate it and i can have it for $200. So lets pretend i keep talking to these people they say its a brand new enginge that was put in before they bought it and they say the car has been sitting for 13 years. Seeing that i live in arizonia in this senario there is such a thing as dry rot. so assuming this car sat for 13 years in the desert..... what need to be replaced? would i need a whole over haul? and how much would i be looking at.... just pretending of corse

Even if the car dosent run u could part it out and easly make your money back and then some. 13yrs is a long time to sit. I was given an 84 that sat for atleast 5yrs. First thing I did was try to spinn the motor by hand. The motor spun easly so I knew it wasn't locked up. Step 1 attempt to spin by hand. If its locked then u know u need a rebuild or a used motor.

even if its got some dryrot its still worth 200. just look at all of the hoses and plastic pieces and make sure theyre ok. there shouldnt be any rust so the rubber and plastic parts are all that there is to worry about

oh yeah, couple years ago i was looking for a carb. and my buddy gave me one with super low miles on it, but it had been sitting for 8-10 years. needless to say the whole thing was 100% plugged up with old gas (it turns solid eventually), and i ended up rebuilding the original carb.
