Proud new owner of my second Rx (this one an 84-gsl-se) I notice my lights in the dash (The idiot lights) sometimes all flash (As if I am turning the key off and on). when this happens I hear a click (relay or something?) I also have a problem when I try to start it cold sometimes I need to put a jumper wire on the fuel pump test terminal to make the pump start. Where can I start checking? I think it could be some ground or lose wire. Also my Over rev buzzer comes on at about 5,500 - 6000 rpm (way before redline). Heeeeeeeeelp

Thanks in advance for any help (and Im sorry if this question has been answered in a FAQ or something)

hmm... my redline warning doesn't work at all, i hear a repetitve clicking noise until it cranks over and get the lights on sometimes, off sometimes and you shouldn't have to jump the fuel pump when its cold, thats f**ked up! Have you pulled the instrument cluster out and looked for loose wires? Have you got a wiring diagram? If not, download the official mazda one from http://www.iluvmyrx7.com

actually #1 could be a worn out ignition switch, next time you drive it play with the key and see what happens. it could also be a relay or i think the oscillator up by the battery. the fuel pump could be a couple of things but it is a simple circuit so start checking stuff. the ovverrev buzzers tend to get a mine of thier own when they get old, i had one that went off randomly over 4,000rpms

Ok I fixed my problems.

1: Bad Alternator (intermittently bad) . Replaced with Turbo II alternator (From Mazda not reman but junkyard in good shape)

2: Did the positive alternator wire mod (Wire directly from alt to positive terminal) Now have steady 13.8 vdc at voltmeter

3: Replaced ground wires and added additional ground from engine to battery.

4: Replaced positive battery lead to starter.

5: Cleaned all fusible links and connections for them.

6: Use jumpered fuel pump test terminal until I get replacement fuel pump (but now I dont have to wait fuel pump runs as soon as I turn key)

Seems to have cured my crazy dash lights, but the buzzer still goes off at 6 g. I think its funny I just rev right through it hehehe.

Car runs great now.

Thanks for the help
