Use a rattle gun.

In actual fact, after having the nut off on my car i've only tightened it till the shaft starts turning with the car on the ground (not on stands). I've been driving fine like that for a while, with no problems. I've checked it periodically and all is fine.

Worst comes to worst I'll leave it then.
