The top not on the strut (removed from the car), will not unscrew. When i try to unscrew it, it simply spins the upper half of the strut. There is nothing holding it back.

I tried vice grips on the stantion, to no avail.

Any advice?

You can't get your nut off?You might need to talk to a doctor about that.

I have that same problem with my wife's cabriolet. My solution, when

I get around to doing it, is to buy new upper strut mounts, a set of

sport springs, and a new set of sport struts. It all needs to go anyhow!

Well yeah that is ideal, but when you cant afford it it makes it much more difficult

Try a torch. get the nut really hot (Glowing) and use an impact wrench.

I usually use an impact on mine and the nut comes right off. You can also use a pair of vice grips on the strut piston rod to hold it.

Yeah i tried all of that stuff pretty much. vice grip, as tight as i could possibly make it, did absolutely nothing, just kept spinning.

I'm taking the struts to the shop tomorrow, they will install the springs for $35 or so. Thats not too bad at all.
