Besides using a puller I'll be dropping in a new clutch this weekend and I know about using a flatblade screwdriver on it but I don't want to risk that much on it.Any other methods???The car has 185,000 kms on it and I might as well do the bearing while its apart.

Thanks

It says you just need to remove the fork and pull the bearing out???Do you really need a puller.I have a crank pulley puller would that work?

No, it's not that easy. It has a diameter which is like around 3/4" and it's sitting inside the e-shaft. crank pulley puller won't work. The puller is a small pen looking thing and when you turn the bolt at the end, it will open up the head and grabs on to the bearing from inside. Then you use the slide hammer that comes with it to pull it out. It's simple and takes like 10sec.

Good luck

the throwout just comes off by hand, super easy.

make sure you grease up the new pilot bearing

I think you might be mixing up the two Racer X. The throw out bearing is the one connected to the clutch fork and can be slid off. The Pilot bearing is inside the E-shaft and needs a puller. You might as well replace both if you are going to drop the tranny. Plus I would suggest replacing the front and rear tranny seal while its out. They're cheap and only take a couple of minutes to replace. Good luck. Oh yeah, here is a link to a post in the FAQ section on removing the pilot bearing, in case this helps.

Thanks Isamu.Actually I was talking about just the throwout bearing. Can you take the throwout bearing out without a puller then???I just want this clutch in the car so it can be brought back to life.I want to start saving for a better engine.Bigger engine.

Yea the throwout bearing just slides onto the fork, then over the tranny input shaft. There is a spring that holds the fork in place make sure you get it clipped back on.
