AHHHH there is a lord in heaven haha. I finally own an rx-7..... After many many years of waiting and wanting and lusting after this beautyful car i have one of my very own.... I must say that my true love was a fc3s but alas i can not afford one... So I will be happy to drive this 1980 rx-7 that i just got the other day. I know it aint much of a car but you know what it still has the wonderful rotory engine in it. It still has the 12a in it. I dont think its the orginal motor but its still a 12a, and its still carbourated(sorry i failed english many of times so leave me alone haha). Speaking of the carb, I have a few questions. I noticed there is a hand choke on the dash. Do i have to really mess with that or just leave it where it is. I also wondered what range you guys shift in. I use to have a 95 grand am that I usually shifted around 3 or 4 grand to save on gas and what not. But on the 7 i got it, thats when it seems to come alive if you will. So i was just wondering about the shift range and what not. I've never really worked on a rotory before but i love the engines so i'm willing to learn as much as i can. So any help you guys can give me and any links or info you give me is much appreciated. I'm sure i'll be back asking questions who knows maybe even answer a few if i know.... haha... thats the key words if i know. But also if there are any things that i need to know just drop me a line. I really look forward to haveing a nice car (even if people say it looks like a pos). I'm a semi die hard fan so i dont plan on getting rid of the car. I would love to fix it up even though its going to be a daily driver for a little bit. Well thanks in advance for answering my questions. I love my new car YAY.... I gotta come up with an excuse to drive it now Talk to you all later zero376

Hey good to have a new member! Check out the FAQ at the top of the page, it will give you a heads up on some places that offer parts and also alot of good general information you can use to fix it if it breaks down on ya.

I can tell ya that I have a 12A and I run the crap out of it, gas mileage sucks on rotarys PERIOD. In my opinion its worth it, they are really a blast to drive and they handle better stock than some of the cars in production today. 12A's are a bit harder to find parts for than 13B's would be but you can pull alot of power out of a 12A with a turbo and a good port job. Robert with www.rotaryshack.com has a quick 12A turbo and look for the user DirectFreak on here, he also has a first gen turbo and a video floating around of it spankin a 350Z. They are impressive vehicles, the motors are alot simpler to work on than most people think(less moving parts than a conventional piston motor).

I usually shift around 5500 in daily driving and if Im runnin it I'll shift at 7000-7500. Its good to run them at higher RPM's everyonce in awhile even if you dont drive like a maniac just to get some of the carbon out of them. If you have any questions feel free to post and one of us will get to it for ya.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I've been having fun driving the car. I would love to get it set up for drifting but at the moment i'm using it for a daily diver. I thought those 12a's could take a beating i've heard it a few times before. One of the reasons i love the rotorys is because they are easier to work on haha. Well thanks for the answer. I'll try and keep an update going on the car haha. I need to do little maintance things on it. Oil change spark plugs and tires eventually. As far as the oil goes i thought it was better to use real oil then the synthetic stuff. But as far as oil goes i cant remeber what i should use. I thought it was 20w some thing but i forgot. What kinda spark plugs would be good? If I get new plugs and i got the money should i get new wires to for a little gain in horse or save it for later? Well once again thanks for the reply. use 20w50, everyone recommends castrol gtx.

get the stock plugs which are going to be NGKs

wouldnt hurt to change the wires if they look old. resistance builds over time and you could be loosing spark
