well i finally got the dash out and the radio. i have to go buy a different pocket for under the radio, because the one i got is like half a din too small. i am also going to run new wires, i bought some 14 gauge over at wal-mart. so theres only 3 things i need to know as of right now.

what size speakers can fit in the 4 factory locations, front and rear?

what are the wires that plug into the stock head unit? i had the radio with the tape deck, and ive got plugs with red wire green strip, blue wire, blue wire with green strip, blue wire with a yellow strip, and the black. im think black is nuetral and red with green is my power. im just going to cut the plugs off and hard wire it to the one that came with the JVC head unit.

i dont have an amp yet, so when i do get one ill have to see if i need to wire up the four speakers from the radio and just have the 2 subs off the amp; or i i can wire up just the front 2 speakers from the radio and wire up the rear two and the subs from the amp. i ended up buying a head unit with no built in crossover or bass line control. so when i put those in should it go radio to bass line controller to crossover to amp??

pics coming as soon as get my broke *** to the store and buy a disposable camera

The fronts are 4"...rears are 6 1/2"

You can also cut provisions in the doors to hold 2 4's in each door

or You can cut a hole behind the cubbys...if I understood my diagrams correctly...and mount a 6x9 there...I'm guessing in the metal enclosure of the cubby

I wouldn't advise cutting any of the wires...either run totally new wiring...or buy an adapter kit...nobody believes they sell one...but I found one thru crutchfield...came with my new kenwood receiever

It also comes with 2 4 prong plugs to hook into the old speaker hookups...but I think you'd have to use that adapter back where the factory amps are...in the cubby holes...cuz I don't see any plugs like that behind the dash

I had a post about the "clarion radio" if you search on here...it has scanned pages with the factory plugs labeled...if you truly do want to cut the wires

while you can run subs and speakers off the same amp I wouldn't advise it...I had some strange problems when I did it...most recievers run a front/rear set of speakers...but if you don't then a 2 channel amp or even a 4 channel would work...you could add a set of tweeters...most of them mount by velcro or a sticky pad...and then you could have 6 speakers plus the subs

well...hope that helps

i was thinking of just cutting off the excess and running all new wire for all the speakers and everything. i studied your clarion post hardcore the other night and it helped some, except that the digrams for the plugs, because when i pulled out the stock clarion radio mine didnt have those 2 four prong plugs, i had one big one. so ill probably just hardwire everything myself because trying to figure this **** out is giving me a headache.

any ideas on what order the amp, crossover, and bass control are supposed to go in?

the 2 four prong plugs are not behind the dash...pull your cubbys and you'll find them hooked into the amps behind your seats...same amp that I have in the pictures on my other post...the signal is carried from the radio to the amps...then to normal left/right audio

Or you can just run new wire to all of the speakers...i'd advise that...since your talking about some pretty old wiring

Your signal should run from the reciever to the crossover...then to the amp...the crossover processes the signal...then sends it to the amp

I'm not really sure what you're calling a bass control...but whatever it is...if you want it to control the subs you'll have to hook it in before the sub amp...I'm assuming it uses rca hookups just like your crossover

if you can't figure it out then just stick some pictures up here and I'll do what I can to make sense of it

When I got my car, the wiring was basically butchered. So I put in a Pioneer Deck wiring the power and such in through the stock locations but I had to rewire the car for speakers as the last person to have a system butchered it. It was fairly easy to run the wires to the front location. As for the back, I just opted for the easy way out and put a couple 6x9's behind my seat on the floor. Im going to make a little enclosure of each one to fit into so it looks nice and not like a couple speakers sitting there, but it seems to work and not move around much just sitting there. Sound quality is somewhat better than I'd expect as its reverbing off the roof and rear hatch is my guess. My Speakers are crap. Im probably going to pick up some middle of the road quality ones and get a nice little amp and 10" Sub. Depending on the age and condition of your car, it would probably be better to lay down all new wire for your car audio. If something doesnt work, It would be easier to find the problem.

That and Im too lazy to test every wire and connection to see what is what.
