Starting Problems
on thursday morning my car wouldnt start, i'd turn the key & it sounded like the champ wanted to get going but it didnt turn completely. next day friday went out to it & started up on a dime. this car is a week old for me. i jjust put in a new battery, & wiper blades. my main concern here. does anyone think this could be a short or the alternator has died. since the car has been running on the battery for like the last week? any help would be great.
Your starting problems may not necessarily be linked to the alternator or battery. If your driving your car day after day and the battery is not charging, then you might have a problem with the alternator. It takes about 30-40 minutes of driving around for the alternator to charge up a flat battery. You should check out all your ignition stuff first, like coils, distributer, etc. Also do a drain test on the battery with a multimeter, anything over 50 mA is a potential problem.
Be carefull. Some gunk got into the carb and my car took forever to start, and whe it finnally did lots of smoke for 2 minutes or less. get in there with a parts cleaning brush also a medium tooth bruch and take your time this a work of art in progress and you are the artist. A friend of mine also went at it with "Mother's metal polish" and did the entire engine bay it cam out pimp.
cool guys. i may do my ignition. the spark plugs looked crappy when i looked at them. there is a piece on the drivers side that has two wires going into it but i pulled those & it was a pretty blue color. those look corroded to me. but im gonna degrease my engine good. i need a good view to what im looking at. i also picked up a haynes manual for it. im sure that will help me out.
