Hey guys, I'm in the mood to remove my air conditioning from my 84, due to fact that I have windows and a sunroof and that it doesn't really work properly anyway. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png (I think it needs re-gassing, but because it was pre-91, I'd have to spend $$$wads to get it all upgraded to the new gas they use now).

So anyway, it looks reasonably straight forward, but before I begin removing things I'd thought I'd open it up to some discussion on the floor and see if anyone has tried it before and had problems, or if anyone has any helpful tips or tricks for me. :bigthumg:

Thanks in advance. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

I did that to mine, there's quite alot to it, condenser, lines, compressor, and tons of other fun things to remove if you want to do it right just carefully start removing items, but plug the lines asap in case you ever wanted to put it back. there is also a thing under the passenger side dash, get the blower piping out of a rx7 without a/c from the factory to replace that stupid heavy thing. If I remember right if you remove the cover in front of the radiator you can get to the condenser, good luck; hope this made sence

yah basically just start ripping, the ac bracket wieghs like 50lbs, its good wiegh savings. the non ac duct under the dash is still available new (lhd), or you can take the evaporator and gut it, or leave it alone. when you take everything out put plastic over the end of everything you leave in the car, in case you wanna put the ac back in someday

Cheers for the advice guys. :bigthumg:

I haven't had air con in any car I've ever driven, so I won't miss it much. I'm just glad that we don't have the rats nest to bother with in our cars over here in Aus. Our emmision laws aren't so tight. :puke:

this is the 2nd time ive see you say that, but is it not true! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

ive owned 3 aussie delivered 1st gens ( as S1 s2 and currently a S3) and all had basiccly the same rats nest as the US cars!!!. I've got a box full of vacumm hose related emiisions crap that was on my S3.

Maybe some one has already han a fiddle with your car?? :yum:

the a/c stuff is easy as the others have pointed out... just be caful undoing the lines, you might freeze and eyeballs or something, and we dont want that! :bigthumg:

Yeah;

Speaking of discharging!

I learn't the hard way. I thought that mine was dead. When I disconnected the lines I got sprayed pretty good in the face and hands. Took me 3 days to overcome that stupid move.

Wear Eye Protection and a Long Sleeve Shirt before you screw with this project. If anybody has a 82 or later there is 2 release valves on the Air Cond that you need to push the Ball in. That will release most of the pressure. Just another day at the office!!!

What's the deal with removing the under dash thingie??? I just capped off the nozzle coming out of the firewall and was not aware of any changes to anything that would matter.

well you can just leave it there.

but its dead weight if the rest of the a/c aint hooked up..

Good Morning;

Well I see that I'm not the only Rotor Head awake this AM.

Thanks for the answer.

I kinda new this one! But the weight factor is no biggie for me.

Have a Great One.

Really? We do have rats nests? And I thought I was having a nice gloat. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Oh well, It wouldn'y suprise me if someone has had a fiddle with the engine, its not that easy to find out the exact history of a 19 year old car. Now that I think about it, I've posted it more than twice. :redface: ummm, hehe.

Well anyway, I officiallly stand corrected. :bigthumg:

I got all of the air conditioner parts out off my engine, and in the process found that my radiator is in not too good a condition, but anyway, I wont be putting in back in (not now anyway, oops did I cut that hose), so what I was wondering is what the deal is with the passenger side thingy. Can you just remove the whole thing? Or is it better to remove its insides and leave the rest??

Thanks
