What weight of lube goes in an LS 1982 rear end, and how much will I need? Are there any special

additives needed, like friction modifiers, etc. My rear axle seems to making noises I don't remember from ten years ago. I know new lube won't solve any problems I have, but it can't hurt right? It kind of does a dull whine while going steady speeds, and sounds a little noisy and rough when coasting/decelerating. It's most noticeable on the freeway 40-60 mph. No popping or clunking, so much as mesh issues I guess.,,,,BB

Nope, don't have a manual, and will be buying the needed supplies tomorrow at work.....

Yea we need to add a couple fresh mods in here.

Anyhow, it prolly uses an additive for an LSD rear end. I would use a 75w90 gear oil for the rear.

Thanks. We have 80/90 at work, and it called for I "think" 3.4 pints of 90 in the book. It had a note symbol, but we couldn't find what that meant anywhere. I imagine that was for the additive, though.,,,,BB

Just confused how much additive to the amount of gear oil. One of our customers rebuilds rear ends of all make and years. Maybe I should just

take it in there and be done with it. It couldn't cost all that much....
