There's heaps of gasket silicones on the market now, for all those cars who have hard-to-get gaskets and that. They work just as good. I think most of them have to cure for 24hours or something. It depends on the one you get, its says on the packet.

the install order is thermostat, gasket, then outlet.
be sure to clean the groove that the thermostat sits in as well so it doesn't
get in the way when you are putting things together.
I purchased a gasket that was silicone on both sides of a thin metal piece.
I got it at Kragen (Checker, Shucks, Kragen are all the same)
