i just bought an 85 gs and i can get it to run but it wont rev over 3000 rpm
i checked the spark plugs and the leading plug in the first rotor is like new where as the other three are somewhat fouled it has a spark but seems to not be igniting anything can annyone help me |
Have you replaced the plugs?
|
the guy i bought it from said he had replaced them and it did not help the problem (of course i know that means nothing)
i also failedto mention that the oil had what semmed like a excess amount of gas in it before i changed it |
The oil in my 82 always smells pretty gassy compared to other vehicles I have had. I suggest you go with the easy stuff first; change the plugs and wires and go from there. I don't know if all 1st gens use a distributor, but if yours does buy a new cap and rotor as well.
|
Also check for any vacume leaks.
|
i have aleady bught a cap rotor and wires i justtook he uys word for it that the plugs were new cnsidering they cost more than your avrege spark plug) i guess ill hve to break out and buy them
also should i try an atf treatment before changing them |
put new spark plugs and a fule filter on it today and that did not help at all
|
Is it getting fuel? Double check spark, then fuel.... you may have a carb issue.
|
ok, lets see. when you rev it, does it reach 3000rpm pretty quick, or does it get there slowly?? when the engine is running, does it shake like a mofo and feels like it wants too rip the supports off?? hows the timing??
You might want to do a compression test. Check the FAQ's there should be a how-to there. and if you dont already have one get a haynes manual. |
it takes a while to get to 3k, does not shake.
i have already checked the timing and have a haynes, which does not seem to cover this type of problem also, i think i forgot to mention that blows smoke (unburned fule) untill it starts to warm up |
