Mysterious Rumbling Noise

how about the rear axle bearings? they will make a rumbly kinda loud road noisey noise. unusual for it to pop up out of the blue though

It would definitely be unusual, as this did just pop out of the blue. Note that this noise is only heard between 1500 and 2000 rpms. Thanks.

does it matter, if you are moving? or can you get the noise in neutral at 1500-2000rpms? i just changed my water pump for almost that same reason, it felt like something spinning was right on the frame, and there was about an inch of play at the water pump pulley. it would shake the whole car too

I have to be moving at least 25mph in at least 3rd gear. I hope it's not the water pump, I just replaced the darn thing

well if it only does it moving its not the water pump. you are looking for something turning at the same speed as the wheels

Just FYI, most machine shops can replace your FB U-joints on the original drive shaft for about a third of the cost of a new Mazda shaft.

I bought this new driveshaft for $59, not a bad deal by me.
