Ok, heres your challenge mother fuckers. day the car was bought, ran great. next moring ran like ****. hit the gas and wants to flood out. getting too much gas in my opinion. everyone said carb needed rebuilding, so i spent the money, tore it down, rebuilt most jets all gaskets and so on and so on. and no, the floats were not stuck. well i just put it back on the car and still im having the same trouble.... im pretty fuckign pissed off and in dire need of help/advice. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

Turbo II 11-27-2002 12:57 AM

sorry man i know nothing about carbs

j9fd3s 11-27-2002 11:05 AM

ok its time to start looking for vacuum leaks. the shutter valve, and the hose from the #2 aav to the back of the intake manifold are your prime suspects

"the shutter valve, and the hose from the #2 aav to the back of the intake manifold are your prime suspects"

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/wtf.gif

where is this?....and what is it? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif let me ask everyone something...when i took the carb off the engine, there was a shutter looking thing where i had removed the carb, it was open all the way. what is it? and should it be open completely? what does it control?

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

j9fd3s 11-27-2002 12:01 PM

shutter valve

the #2aav hose, or the mystery hose, on the passenger side of the engine, it goes from the rear of the aav(its on the top rear of the carb, one hose goes to the air cleaner) down to the lower rear of the intake manifold. since one end sits reight next to the exhaust manifold, it likes to split

mike

Hereonout 11-27-2002 12:32 PM

no man, it fine.....if the floats were stuck, how would i know, the bowls were dirty but everything is clean and put back together and im still having the same trouble....too much fuel is what im thinking (90% sure)

j9fd3s 11-27-2002 12:33 PM

do the floats, float?

mike

Hereonout 11-27-2002 12:39 PM

.........i dont know

Hereonout 11-27-2002 12:46 PM

oh my god...all i did was clean them and put them back...is there anyway i can get to them again w/out taking the whole carb off again?

j9fd3s 11-27-2002 12:51 PM

you can just take the carb top off in the car right?

mike

Hereonout 11-27-2002 12:54 PM

im going to try, ill get back to ya...and thanks for the help man :bigthumg:

Turbo II 11-27-2002 01:03 PM

he's a master at these things

Hereonout 11-27-2002 02:15 PM

well buddy....the floats...float......what now?...my dad mentioned something about the ignition, about the points not making contact.....but keep in mind, the car ran fine day 1 ....day 2 this started. could it be the "points" if so would that solve the too much fuel problem, which i believe is THE problem.

j9fd3s 11-27-2002 02:57 PM

how about the fuel filter? try blowing thru the return line maybe its clogged?

mike

Hereonout 11-27-2002 03:03 PM

about 10 minutes away from putting the carb back on the car, everything is hooked up, ill try checking the return lines, its a possibility i will consider, now that ive repaired everything, and taken it off again, its either fuel lines or ignition, as far as i can tell. get back to you.

j9fd3s 11-27-2002 04:52 PM

yeah, its time to start looking for wierd stuff, like clogged lines etc

mike

Hereonout 11-28-2002 01:00 AM

....return lines fine, fuel is clean...new fuel filter. so far, too much money has been invested. im asking mazda mechanic ffriday. god help me. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

mrdiaz96 11-28-2002 01:32 PM

What carb are you dealing with? I f it is the baby four barrel Discount auto parts sell cheap holley carbs that fit nice. Haaynes manual helps alot in dealing with carbs.

The HaynesWeber Carburetor Manual

Barns and noble Haynes manuals

Holley Carburetor Manual

holly carb manuel

this two books where recomended by SCCA racers at the track

Hereonout 11-28-2002 10:58 PM

yeah i got the books, and its already been rebuilt. its the stock Nikki carb. and i dont know what is ******* wrong with it. carbs been rebuilt, wtf?

Hereonout 11-29-2002 10:29 PM

so far everything has been a dead end....has anyone experianced or heard of these problems?

Hereonout 12-03-2002 02:39 PM

....what about an 84 gslse...ive found one in one piece in the junk yard......engine swap?

j9fd3s 12-03-2002 02:48 PM

haha, go for it, i'm running out of ideas

mike

Hereonout 12-03-2002 03:33 PM

yeah it looks like its just been wrecked, but ithink i have to pull out the plugs and turn the rotors to check the seals, does that sound right?....yeah it would be a good idea to get it, hell it would be ******* awsome, but $$$ and how hard would it be?

j9fd3s 12-03-2002 04:16 PM

it all bolts in but you need everything, engine, crossmember, wiring, ecu, afm.

pull the trailing plugs and it will make noise when you crank it by hand

mike

Hereonout 12-03-2002 05:40 PM

...trailing ignitor is same this as a trailing coil?

j9fd3s 12-03-2002 05:47 PM

nope, the ignitors are little black boxes on the distributor, they trigger the coils

mike

Hereonout 12-03-2002 10:30 PM

........ok, inside or outside the distributer?

Racer X 12-03-2002 10:33 PM

outside the distributer. They are little black boxes one for tailing one for leading. They should have the numbers J-109 on the sides of them

Hereonout 12-03-2002 10:40 PM

Thanks, will check in just a minute, but, another thing, cant get my pic to show up on the avatar...what do i need to do to show off my baby thats causing me all this heartache?

Racer X 12-03-2002 10:51 PM

Need to make sure the image is a .jpeg or .jpeg format and is 100x100 or smaller then upload it in your control panel.

Hereonout 12-03-2002 11:05 PM

"The upload failed. Please contact a member of staff to help rectify the problem"

this is what it says?

Racer X 12-03-2002 11:23 PM
