yup pouring down the carb is a lot easier

Wheres the fun in that tho?Hereonout: Does your actually need the ATF trick to get it started? All it does is restore a bit of lost compression nothing more than that tho.

Hereonout 03-06-2003 03:49 PM

might as well, looks like ill be working on it for a little while longer. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

Hereonout 03-09-2003 12:43 AM

holy **** i cranked it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif but sadly to say, all the work i have done, was for nothing. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png well not for nothing i guess. but my original roblem is still there. but once again, i may know what it is, i mean come on, theres not much else to be looking for. i had it running for a bout 15 minutes to burn out the atf and what not, and i had two frinds over helping out. well one of my friends noticed when he sprayed carb cleaner near the base of the carb, it would surge....intake leak. sure enought on the throttle rod, at the throttle linkage, at the front of the carb, is leaking. im not too sure if i explained it well enough, but its the rod, that has the throttle valves on it, and it is leaking from the front, the side facing the fan. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png yeah, well i figured it might have been there, and because all the emissions were connectwed and vaccums, it wasnt very noticable. well now seeing how i only have one vaccum hose hooked up, it owould be pulling more air through that one spot, making it more noticable. well anyways, i cannot fix it, ill have to just get that stage from another carb in the junkyard, cause u know how the cab disassembles in like 3 or 4 'stages'. i fixed the starting problem. it was cause by a bad connection on the battery, now its solid brass battery connectors. and i fixed the overflowing gas. get this, the new floats i recieved from autozone, SUCKED. not saying autozone sucks -thank you Greg for your help- but i had to use my old floats, that god im a pack rat. aint that sum ****?

Racer X 03-09-2003 01:08 AM

Glad to hear it ran atleast. So you need another carb then?Or fix this one with other carb parts?

j9fd3s 03-09-2003 11:43 AM

the base of the carbs are pretty easy to swap, if everything else seems to be ok, then you should just swap out the base. we both know how complex that carb is you dont want to mess with the working part(s)

mike

Hereonout 03-09-2003 12:23 PM

by now i know all the working parts inside and out. but yeah all i have to do is just swap one stage as i call it. but my buddy with the TII says that was probably my whole problem the whole time. what do you guys think?

Racer X 03-09-2003 04:13 PM

Yeah it might have been. You can never tell with that rats nest in the way.Thankfully you took it off.Let us know if this works.

Hereonout 03-12-2003 03:22 PM

hard to find a carb that even looks somewhat promising, but like i said, i only need the throttle linkage stage. hopefully by this weekend ill have found one.

Racer X 03-13-2003 12:55 AM

Cool, let us know if it runs or not.

Hereonout 03-18-2003 12:15 AM

met a few guys outside autozone last night, one 83 gs i think and a gsl-se. guys seemed to know a lot, and its a whole lot easier to learn about **** when someone is there pointing to ****. but i know believe i need new ignitors, just adding to the list for the junkyard trip.

Hereonout 03-18-2003 12:34 AM

doesnt the tach work off of the trailing ignitor?! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif damnit, the trailing and leading ignitors can be swaped right? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif unfortunatly it has been raining for what feels like the past month here, and i dont want to drive for 45 minutes to find out its closed, and besides, i dont want to be working on a rusted banged up car in the middle of a downpour, water wont hurt the ignitors will it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683485.gif damn i getting tired of that place too. tried helping Mikebeezie3404 with his problem, toldhis to spray some carb cleaner or starting fluid in a spray canon the vaccum lines, sounds like he may have a vaccum leak. cant wait to see that phone bill. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683621.gif so anyways if i ever get to go to the all mighty yard of the deceased then maybe i can make some progress instead of sitting naked on the couch with a tub of butter watching car and driver https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/ban.gif

Racer X 03-18-2003 01:25 AM

Tach works off the coil. The coil works off the ignitor. If your ignitor is toast make sure that you test them both. That will help your starting but you still need to figure out the rest of it too.

Hereonout 03-18-2003 12:50 PM

well, after getting up at the crack of dawn today, ive managed to come home with and new piece to the carb, the one that i found the huge intake leak in, new tail light covers and red/white/yellow markers that fit inside, seeing how mine are all broke, and new ignitors, i mean all of this just came off of an 84 with 13,000 miles https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif damn im good. now the carb piece needs some modifying, but im all up for it, its soaking in carb cleaner right now to break up some of the dirt and grease and ****. im going to take a shower and go the **** to bed. ive spent the past 5 hours in two different junkyards, i cfant tell what color my hands should be and i have cuts all over my hands and arms.... damn it feels good to be a man https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683637.gif

Smog Fighter 03-18-2003 09:25 PM

drifter 03-18-2003 09:52 PM

Yeah, this thread is already on 7 pages. Lets hope this is the problem solver. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

And of all these troubles, it worked fine the day you bought it and stopped the day after....? Wierd..

Racer X 03-18-2003 10:31 PM

Get to work!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png We want to hear this thing run already. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

Hereonout 03-19-2003 04:50 AM

yeah no ****, ive been up all night so far doing a few mods to it, the way ive got everything set up i have to basicly customize what parts i am using. very weird, thats why im still kinda apprehensive about the whole thing. had to fix a piece of metal that opens the secondaries when the throttle is pushed, finally ended up using modeling glue, then when that dried i put on some JB Weld, and sanded it down to perfection https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif and since then ive been waiting for the sun to come up, i dont want the police being called today. besides i cant see under the hood very well without the sun being up. sooooooo, hopefully by tonight ill know whether or not ive just been wasting my time, then again, it IS a HUGE intake leak.....and one simple question....why would 'secondary' barrels be larger than primary?

Racer X 03-19-2003 05:11 AM

Primaries are used for part throttle and idle so they don't need to be as big.The secondaries supply the carb the big dose of fuel needed as the rpms rise.Too big of primaries will cause a **** idle or flooded out engine.

Hereonout 03-19-2003 08:52 AM

well the JB Weld broke. so im going to have to soder or weld. body shop down the road where i live and i know the guy, so if he ever gets his ass up and opens shop ill see if he can do it for me. and that makes sense about the barrel size, i was just wondering. and how common is it for an ignitor to go bad? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

j9fd3s 03-19-2003 10:36 AM

the ignitors go bad a lot, especially if you have bad plug wires or something

mike

Hereonout 03-21-2003 07:19 AM

well i gave the piece for the carb to a buddy this morning to take to welding class, i told him to get his teacher to weld it for me, it'll be tricky, and thats why im getting the TEACHER to do it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png this sucks. ill have the part today if everything goes well, fixed or not, who knows? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png but that's all im waiting on now, everything else is done. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Let us know how it goes.

Hereonout 03-21-2003 11:47 PM

his teacher said he was too busy to mess with something so unimportant. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/*******.gif ..... i think its pretty god damned important. so now its eithre jb weld, which is unreliable i think, or find someone else, either way this has to be done. i guess illl let you guys know what i find. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

pengaru 03-22-2003 03:06 PM

it sounds like a small piece, why don't you pickup a oxygen/mapp cutting/brazing torch kit at home depot and a book on brazing... you could have it done in one night.

Hereonout 03-22-2003 05:44 PM

well i fixed the piece that was broken. but now i believe i have an intake leak from the intake manifold. im seeing radiator fluid leaking from somewhere. i cant actually see the fluid, but i see it evaporating from the heat shield thats bent downward (helps catch loose bolts) underneath the exhaust manifold. i think its from the underneath of the intake manifold. dumbass here didnt put gasket sealant on the intake manifold gasket. could that be why? i know its radiator fluid because you can smell it. oh and i have a stuck seal possibly, its hard to tell with the way it is running. any thoughts would be helpful, im sitting here waiting for some help....*cough *cough.

Hereonout 03-22-2003 07:33 PM

well ive been working on figuring this **** out. here goes: that piece that i said was broke, and i jb welded, broke again. do you guys know what im talking about. the little piece of metal thats used to opent he secondaries? ill get a pic if i can soon. but anyways i rubbed some leftover i didnt use from this morning on the wall. well i checked it, and it was still somewhat wet. my fault, i must not have put enough hardener in it when i mixed it. also i noticed the intake leak, which was VERY small from where i had not put on any gasket sealant. well i have remixed and reapplied the jb weld to the piece, and it is already hard after 20 minutes. i have to get a new intake gasket, but im just going to make a new one from carboard. when i go to reattach the intake, i will be using gasket sealant on every gasket i can find. instead of waiting a week for the new gasket, im going to just make one, im very anxious because i cranked it earlier, and it was GREAT it ran perfectly, the i reved it a little more to make it warm up a little faster, because for some reason it wouldnt run without the choke pulled out, im sure ill get to that soon enough. but i reved the **** out of it one good time and it all went to ****. what happened i believe is i broke that weak ass weld. sooooo.....im sorry this is so long and ****, but, i think ive got it figured out, and now i have to make new gaskets and get some gasket sealant. and im going to re-enforce the weld with more weld when it dries. wish me luck https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif oh and maybe the reason i thought i had a stuck seal, was maybe because the secondaries were not even opening even at full throttle. and remember a while back i said the float bowls sight glass was full of gas, well maybe because the secondaries were not opening and it just kept dumping fuel into the bowls. wow guys, i think i may have gotten this figured out..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

Smog Fighter 03-22-2003 09:03 PM

Here are some great pic's, when the

window opens, inside the frame is a few links. Click the "Tech write-ups".

Then click the "mechanical secondaries for nikki".

Then enjoy!!

Racer X 03-24-2003 12:49 AM

Damn so it ran good for alittle while then?Keep us posted as to when this beast stays running good. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png

Hereonout 03-24-2003 09:32 PM

i think im giving up. no leaks, but now the fuel in the site glass is full. and its running like before. ive fixed nothing. there is no god. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

Hereonout 03-29-2003 10:49 AM

i give up. thanks for all the help guys. ill just have to save up for another one. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif thanks guys. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

pengaru 03-29-2003 02:31 PM

does the car run at all? chassis clean?

Hereonout 03-30-2003 12:33 PM

yeah, no rust and yes she will crank and run and you can drive it, but you have to keep it floored most of the time to keep it going. selling for....what should i sell it for, it has the limited edition wheels on it?

drifter 03-30-2003 07:58 PM

Your giving up and selling it???? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

No respect my friend, no respect. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683431.gif

Hereonout 03-30-2003 09:02 PM

im selling it to get the 84 down the road, not giving up on the rotary, just....letting go of one for another.... no respect? have faith. i will never turn my back on the rx7. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

Smog Fighter 03-30-2003 10:23 PM

just on that one https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Hereonout 03-31-2003 05:33 PM

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png well, if someone wants to give me 5 or 6 hundred, then yeah, ill sacrifice it to get another. whats wrong with that? ive done everyhting i could possibly do, and i finally think it has no compression on two sides of the front rotor. forgive me for admitting when im beat. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

Smog Fighter 03-31-2003 09:46 PM

2 faces + no compression = 1 bad seal
