Unhappy

My 84 is absolutely stock except for the steering wheel, and I'm in the process of

1) trying to put in a nice stereo

2) trying to fix the horn, (because when the previous owner put in the sports steering wheel, they didn't hook the horn up.)

3) replacing most of the original switches(which are burned out)

The switches bit is the easy part, the others I'm having trouble with.

Does anyone know the exact location of the horn relay? I've got 2 maintenance manuals, one is Haynes and is really useless and the other is a mitchell from http://www.iluvmyrx7.com and tells me nothing at all. I'm in the process of downloading the original wiring diagram to print. From the online version my relay is apparently in the dash somewhere, but after spending a few hours upside down, I'm yet to find it (I'm probably not looking hard enough but some guidance would be much appreciated)

With the stereo, I'm in the process of having to practically remove my entire dash to pull out the old stereo, and additionally the radio is 3 piece, making my life even more difficult, cos I'm going to be left with gaping holes from the stock stereo balance thingy and graphic equaliser. (Now I'm pissing myself off cos I sound like a whinging bitch)

Do I have to cut the dash to fit my new stereo? Can anyone recommend anything for replacing the balance and graphic equalizer holes after I take them out? and where the f**k is my horn relay?

Please help... :stickpoke:

i hear my horn relay back there but i have no idea where it is, i'll be looking soon though

the radio is easy to take out, you take off the silver console thing and then there are 4 screws holding it in

you can get surrounds from www.rotorhead.ca that will trim the area where the rest of the stereo used to be and let you mount some gauges there.

They look pretty good, but my air vent section at the top of the centre console is not a circle one, its a horizontal slide one. Damn! I was going for the brushed steel look interior as well.

Yeah, I had a similar problem that was fixed with 2 flat-head screwdrivers and a bit of careful prying. There are 2 plastic tabs holding the shifter plate to the centre console at the bottom. Just try and pop it out. You'll see the screws right underneath.

i was talking to a guy yesterday & he was telling me not to use the haynes or chiltons due to the fact that they are not in depth. you can order the one that the mazda techs use at www.hemmingmotornews.com
