Will a 13b bolt in where a 12a came out with no problems or do they use a different bellhousing??

13b had a front motor mount. Most of its the same, but you do have to do a bit of work. Racing Beat sells some stuff for converting... search the theads around here for more info... its been done billions of times so.

Main points , gearbox goes back 20mm , new mount needs to be made. Driveshaft gets 20mm shortened. 13b exhaust header required. If using S4 block you need to put the front cover off 12a or old 13b. Use sump off gsle rx7 still available new.

actually the gear box stays in the same place. it's the front mount that changes. either weld an extra piece to the back side of the front mount where it bolts to the frame mount, or get a front mount from racing beat or mazdatrix that will allow putting a 13b into a 12a frame.

12A and 13B first gens are identical except for the crossmember that the motor mounts bolt to. Both motors use a plate to mount to the motor mounts which bolt to the crossmember. The plates are identical, but Racing Beat sells a plate specifically for mounting 13Bs in 12A chassis. Personally, I would try to find a 13B crossmember, or I would just slot the holes in the mounting plate.

hmm thats interesting. everyone in the us, at first split the difference, 10mm forward, 10mm back, and then either after the gsl-se or rb came out with their brace, everyone in the usa leaves the trans in place and moves the motor 20mm forward.

moving it back is prolly better for wieght distribution....

oil pan part number is N305-10-700A

Moving your battery back is best for weight distribution. Keep it simple and slot your mounting holes.

Leave the gearbox in its original place, change the sump to clear the steering arm, change the oil pick ,remanufacture engine mount. The only differance now is the length of the motor itself. The weight distribution is not a factor.I cannot feel the differance..............
