I am in the process of removing the oil cooler on my 1985 GS. It has a leak between the cast iron portion and the cooler portion. Is there any tricks for removal and installation? Is there any hope to repair the oil cooler? Is the top cooler portion a stack of finned plates that are sandwiched together by those three bolts?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Morning,

Have a look at this web page under the how-to section. Should give you the answers to everything you need to know about oil coolers.
