how do i tell the size of a holley carb? it doesn't appear to have any designation on it. what is the copper tube running from the bottom front of the carb down to and around the header pipe? also, the car idles at around 2100 rpm. when i turn the idle adjust i can raise the speed but it will not lower. there is a high flow fuel pump but no regulator. would that solve the prob?

Sounds like you got a few issues. The idle problem sounds like your throttle cable may be too tight so the throttle plates can't return all the way. The copper tube is the hot air choke (what Racing Beat uses on thier prepped Holleys). As far as the size goes you can look up the numbering on your carb at a good parts store or even type them in a search engine or at Holley's web site to see what carb is listed for the part number you have.

thanks for the info. i checked the throttle cable and it is fine. does the copper tube take the place of the pull choke then? because the choke pull doesn't seem to be connected to anything in this car. if it does, might that be my problem because it seems to idle like the choke is pulled out but never goes in.

I believe that is what the hot air choke does. I have had both a manula choke and then swapped to a electric choke. I prepped my Holley for rotary but never had the hot air choke. I believe that the hot air choke pipe is what will open or close the choke though. Check your linkages for any play or if it is bent anywhere more than it should be, that could cause the high idle issues. Hope you get it figures out.

thanks again for the info, i'll be working on it. on a side note, there is no fuel return line coming off the carb and the return line on the car is capped by the firewall. Sound right to you?
