Alright so here is another one that has kinda stumped me through the years....I have owned four GSLSE both 84 and 85.One out of the three with power steering.Every single one that I have driven has all had the starting issues.I usually have to pull the 20 amp engine fuse then crank it over a few.I then put the fuse back in and zoom.WTH?I heard that the computer gets stuck in warm up mode which causes the injectors to run rich upon start up.Hence the flooding.There is one guy here in town (colorado springs)that uses the mega squirt computer system with great succes.Im not so sure about dropping 200 then soldering the whole thing together? I have a GSLSE in alright shape with no upper intake manifold for trade for a carb setup if anyone is interested?Any thoughts or ideas?

 

leaky fuel injectors dripping upon shutoff. thus you flood it every time you start by accident. thats my take. my 13B starts in 1-2 seconds every time after a cold night.

 

yep ive seen the leaky injector thing too, its a gradual thing too.

 

Would it benefit the GSLSE to switch to the second gen fuel injector set?

 

no. just pull the stockers out and have em cleaned

 

Any time you fire it up, make sure you warm it all the way up before you shut it down.

 

As others have stated. #1 cause if leaking injectors.



You also have other factors to consider.



AFM bad allowing the fuel pump to energize before cranking. Turn the key to the on position. If you hear the fuel pump come on then the AFM flap door is probably bent or the circuit is bad.



Coolant temp sensor for the ECU is bad or corrosion on the contacts.

Engine compression low.

Cranking compression slow. Needs to be between 250-260RPM. Slow cranking on an Se will cause flooding. Check grounds, especially the one to the show tower area near the fuseable links.

Test conditon of battery if slow cranking is evident.

Poor connection with fuseable links for fuel injection system. Recommend replace links with 2nd gen fuses.



Yes, there are more than one culprit of the "Ol flooding" condition of the Se. :-)



Even small leak in the air intake hose to the T/body can cause problems.

 

I'm willing to say leaking injectors also.



I'm a megasquirt user, they are nice but unlike the microtech they dont have a base tuning file, you need to set everything up to make it work with the rotary engine. Not to hard to do but it involves alot of reading. As far as the soldering, get the stim card and practice on that first. It dont take much to put the thing together, as for building a harness, easy! Only like 16 wires and half of them are sensor grounds. It also emulates things like the MAF and other useless sensors that are probably bad.
