Great Way To Lower Engine Temps

[quote name='Shane.Trammell' date='Jun 23 2005, 01:18 PM']the whole idea of the throttle body mod is to clean up the tb and get rid of the secondary throttle. getting rid of the coolant and the thermowax is just a small added benefit that probably doesnt help much if at all. but there has been a lot of good feedback from people who have done the tb mod and they say it works, i guess they are all just imagining? thats like saying dlidfis is worthless, even though everyone who has done it has been satisfied. i dont know why you brought up the phenolic spacer, oh thats right you thought the tb mod was to cool the tb. i seriously doubt that a spacer is going to keep temps down very much with the engine only about 4 inches away. the ambient temp is high enough to heat the tb up on its own.
oh and youre really stunning me with your "studying for my ASE certification," im sure they teach a lot about rotaries and modifying them.

You my friend are a ******* idiot, what do you think would be cooler, metal motor/intakegasket/metal intake or metal motor/NON-metal spacer/metal intake. Your genius blows me away and yes I understand the idea of removing the secondary plates but does your factory programmed ecu? I doubt it.

Are you actually increasing airflow thru the TB? No. Have you done an exhaust system on this car? Maybe put a header on it THEN go and do the TB mod. You want cheap get an old TB and port it, do the TB mod and buy a header and straight pipe it thru a pre-silencer. You need to increase airflow on BOTH sides. Listen I dont want you to think Im a dick and this senseless bickering on NP is getting us nowhere, just do a little research on the subject. I apologize for being harsh.

Shane,
Running without a thermostat is fine. I run my car without a thermostat.
However, I DO have it blocked off where the stock themostat used to be.
Water rushes around the other large hole anyway.
The main reason you want to block it off is that when you rev up the car, it can actually cause some cavitation in that area, and the water will mostly circulate from one hole to the other, - as opposed to the radiator and back.
This is not obvious at cruising or normal driving. At higher revs (when you need the most cooling) is when this happens. Extended periods of high-RPM driving is where the problem can really raise its ugly head.
All, while your stock gauge reads "cool".
Either put a new thermostat in, or block it off. I used a piece of wood (broomstick)
and cut it in the shape of a round wedge, and hammered it in. Once wet, it expands, and it is NOT coming out by itself.
A little ghetto, but it works fine.
HTH.
