The short answer: Not so much.

The FD trans is supported by the PPF, and not by a crossmember underneath. You would have to work out a totally new mounting scheme

The long answer: With enough time and $$, you could totally do it. It would just be a major bear.

PPF = Power Plant Frame.

Rather than a rear tranny mount, 3rd gens have a C-section aluminum casting that connects the rear of the trans to the front of the rear diff, then the diff is mounted to the body.

And again, it seems unlikely that a 3rd gen would have good gear ratios to work with the power of the NA 1st gen.

well since my car is a gsl-se i think i know where the motor mounts. It mounts just like the 12a motors do. I am not trying to start forum wars but it mounts just like any other first gen motor (gsl-se). The third gens mount on the rear iron if what i saw last night is true. It will mount right about where the idler arm mounts on the passanger side frame rail
