If I were to buy a newer 12a for my 79' will I be able to easily hook up my oil cooler, or will I have to use the shitty water cooled one that comes on the newer ones? I hav'nt seen 12a's in a long time so I forget.

they break down like this

79-80 federal: same as what you gots

80 california: its got a wierd egr, run fast the other way

81-82: it has a lighter flywheel, better rotor housings, the shutter valve, same oil cooler setup

83-85: it has a heavier flywheel, lighter rotors, and the god awful oil cooler setup. all you have to do to use your oil cooler setup is cut the heater pipe on the rear housing and its good to go

After the time that I have spent on 12A change overs (From 79-84) setup'asses! They all look the same till the boogyman comes to get Ya!!!

In other words, Check out this site and others related to it so you can get the full DooWaDee into you project!

I am a Past Owner of 6 of them over the years w/no Mech Background, and alway's with alot of help from the above made it happen!!!!

My own project is:

80 Motor BridgePort

Racing Beat Holley Set-up w/Reg set at 7.5PSI (Blue Pump).

Just so yoins know. Mount the F-in Pump Verrtical or you will get Fuel Cavitation witch can lead to complete see Ya Later Car or talking to yiur insurance company.

It seems accordingly to (Holley that mounting it Horrro will cause the Pump to either to fail or cause a fire if not mounted correcty. They told me Void Warranty> Say What!!!

MazdaTrix-Complete Exhuast System to include Header & HeatSheild

Clutchmasters Stage 1 setup

418 Rear Gearing i.e LSD - With some Help

All transformed into a 84-GSL

The fun part was getting rid of the rats nest.

The Part of Your Life Will Be!!!

Round & Round

P.S. Why am I putting a 80 Motor into a 84-GSL

Answer

80 Motor (Brand New Rebuilt) Bridgeport

with above

84 RX-7 GSL complete minus Blown Motor

Duuuuoooo

that reminds me, the 81 up cars have an oil pressure guage and sender, so you have to plug the hole or get an aftermarket guage
