ok so the engine in my Dads ReX-7 maybe shot.... looks like the rear rotor housing maybe cracked.... coolant being burned. white smoke out the tail and puddle under the rear of the engine
opinions should i just go with another 12a? or should i get rid of the car?
yeah yeah i know that there are a few people that are going to say do a conversion to a 13b..... but the thing is i don't want to ruin the car.... it was my Dads car and has alot of sentimental value and i really wanted to do a frame up on it.... i know you are going to say why bother.... but seriously i want honest opinions
Should I keep the car and replace the engine either with a 12a or 13b or should i scrap the car?
Please be honest

Have fun.
I know that doesn't answer your question, but you already did that.
Do what you can yourself, and farm out the stuff you can't. It costs less to have
a motor rebuilt if you pull it yourself. If you aren't mechanically inclined, then call around
to local shops that work on rotaries and get lots of estimates.
As for sentimental value, nothing can replace that. But sometimes sentiments can be
expensive.
Just some food for thought.

You could always run to the wreckers and get a decent engine for it then if you decide to sell it then you can say it runs good.
By the sounds of it, you've almost made up your mind, just get a replacement 12a in good nick, prolly won't cost you as much as a conversion and will still be fast enough to have some fun in.

So today i'm looking at the car put some coolant into it...
and start the car... NO WHITE SMOKE.
NO PUDDLE **To be determined tomorrow morning**
NO coolant in the Oil
none of the radiator hoses seem to be leaking.
I took the car around the block and the add coolant light came on but as soon as i let up on the throttle it stopped dinging
the car doesn't go over 1/4 on the temp
the only thing that i can think that's happening is the thermostat is screwed (which i'll be changing tomorrow) when i blew out the bearing on the waterpump a while back.
I'm baffled...
the car is running like a champ **for now**

the rotary wont mix oil and coolant, its almost impossible. all the other "head gasket" symptoms are the same though.
my $2, if you want to have a stock restored car, great build a stock restored car, most of us want fast modified cars, but if it makes YOU happy thats what you should be doing. i've always wanted (and will start soon, hopefully) on restoring an 85 gsl-se
