I just put two brand new coils on my 83 (that 6PI) thinking that would stop the hesitation and when I took it out it hesitates really bad at take off and at full pedal.

But get the pedal just right(somewhere in the middle) and it blasts off like a rocket.

The engine compartment stinks of gas fuming to the point that if I bend over the engine for a few minutes my shirt smells like gas. Not that you can because the fumes burn your eyes.

I have a clear in line fuel filter That I have yet to see fill all the way.

I have a brand new IN-LINE fuel pump that reads 2.5-4 psi.

I have a fairly good haze of blue/gray smoke out the tail pipe.

It doesnt backfire on acceleration or decelleration. And when I load it up it doesnt hesitate.

And I also suspect the secondaries, but only because I dont know how to adjust them and I have rebuilt this carburetor just recently.

These are the syptoms.

Anybody got any ideas on what could make this better.

No leaks.

Fuel level windows seem normal.... Just at half way.

Seems to be burning way rich.

I just dont get it.

blue /gray means your running rich

check you choke.

also take you finger to the tail pipe if you get a sorta grayish or even a dark dark dark gray it means your running rich.

The thing is that gas evaporates pretty quick so fuel leaks if any can be hard to find. But it sounds like carb problems

The problem with 1 st gen is that thinks creep up and they could be anything ,your case fuel system wise.

a stuck choke line or lever could cause the richness

does it sorta bog when WOA in the lower rpms?

does it sorta have a high ideal? 900-1300rpms?

you could always tweek you carb to try to fix the problem.
