Well the reason I need to know if this is doable is that the clutch slave mounting bolt threads are stripped on the GSL-SE tranny. The ones on my 86 N/A tranny are good.

Would I be able to swap just the bell housings or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can, but its 100% easier to helicoil or tap the bellhousing in there for different bolts

Thanks for the reply brother.

This will also give me a chance to check out exactly what I fried. I'll add that info to the database of symptoms and problems.

On a related question... Are all the sychros the same sizes? I took the tranny apart and I notices some marring on the 2nd and 3rd gear synchro rings. If they are then I can replace them because I have a few laying around.

Thanks for looking... now gimme the INFO!

I had the same problem with one of my bolt holes. I drilled and tapped the next size up that I had laying around. You may need to bore out the slave a little also.

Just don't do what I did. I put too long of a bolt in. Went I went to start it up, I got absolutely nothing. I could hear the starter try to turn, but wouldn't. Tried rotating the engine by hand and it was locked up. Turned out that one bolt fit just fine between the teeth on the flywheel.

Go figure.

fb and fc take different synchros, you can put the fb tailshaft housing on the fc trans and throw it in though

Thanks thats just what I wanted to know. The trans I removed had no 3rd gear synchro surface left!!! I'll rebuild that one as a spare.

The oil looked like gold metalflake paint. lol
