Are you talking it sputters as soon as you hit the gas at 5500rpm or does it accelerate then when you hit 5500 rpm it sputters?

My REPU sputters or hesitates for an instant as soon as I hit the gas but then it recovers and accelerates smoothely. If you figure out what it is let us know.
yours sounds like an accelerasor pump issue tom, its either too much or too little. it might be hard to get it 100% out just because you have the ability to open the carb 100% at anytime

The Dellorto is a great carb. Like a beatiful Italian woman, both exotic looking and nothing but trouble. But like the woman to sexy to walk away from. O.K. O.K> I stop with the metaphors, but serious if it doesn't need a full rebuild it could benfit from a good cleaning out/one's over. You can do this easily yourself by removing the top jet cover piece. Remove each jet and spray it through with carb cleaner then hit all the internal passage ways you can get to from on top. While your at it clean out both sets of filters inside. One is inside the round part of the fuel inlet (right were you connect your fuel line). The other-which is much smaller and usually cloged is inside the flought filler nosal. Handeling the flought with care remove the small spring loaded filler from the middle and inside you'll find the micro filter I'm talking about. After that you can put it all back together and start trying to tune the bitch (I mean carb).

too lean/fuel pump too small. the colder out side it is the "leaner" it will run. cold air is more dense

True but the lean condition can be because of a cloughed, or under-sized jet and or dirty backed up filters.

i think my jets are big enuf it is jettet for sea level..."6000 feet here" i cleaned the carb already took the hole thing off and cleaned every part and jet.. i think it has to do with the fuel presure, the pump runs 4-6 psi, what should i be running? i am getting a regulater next week maybe it will help

i'm with j9, colder == denser, you need fuel to go with the increased air density. accelerator pump and jets are probably both in need of changes. mmm, carburetion.
