84 1.1L stumbling

Re: 84 1.1L stumbling
I still have most of my electrical plugs, but I suppose there would be no harm in deleting them after all of the vac lines and brackets were gone. Seems like in the end you only have one solenoid left out of the mess.

Re: 84 1.1L stumbling
lol yea thats what i would do. all of mine still have the rats nests in them, but my 5 speed has the orange one broken, which is m/t specific (go figure lol). another reason i asked is cuz my secondaries don't work and i was wondering if it was cuz of that plug being broken. the plug isn't broken the vacuum line connector on the plug is though. i know the secondaries are vacuum actuated, but im not sure exactly how they are. im gonna make a new thread to see who replies

Re: 84 1.1L stumbling
I switched my Nikki for a Weber 34 ICH from Rotary Shack. Mileage never went up as much as they claimed, but it has fewer issues operating than the Nikki. Also, never have been able to find a decent throttle bracket (or devise a way to craft one) and the throttle won't return on it's own (which I suspect is due to the throttle cable and bracket). Massive spring to the rescue.
Always seems to run too rich or too lean when I switch out the idle jet. Started with a 70 and it was practically saturating the engine with gas. Advanced the timing a ton and it ran better, but engine was getting too hot at interstate speeds. Currently running a 50 with timing close to stock...possibly a bit retarded.
I suspect I'll need to change some of the jets inside at some point to make it run how I want. Nice thing about the Weber is you only have a few jets and all are directly under the main cover. Rebuild kit is simple too. accelerator pump diaphragm, needle/seat, 3 o-rings, 4 gaskets. No ball bearings, springs, or any of that stupid junk to lose or send across the room.
If I had it to do over again I'd probably go with a Weber 2 barrel kit instead. Quite a bit more $$$, but I do have to wonder if the car would perform better.

Re: 84 1.1L stumbling
my old fb had a weber 48 ida sidedraft (I was told it was with a laker side draft intake manifold but haven't been able to find any info on it) with unkown jets but it ran well and stayed above lean so I didn't mess with it. ran great and got decent mileage (just shy of 20 mpg highway). best part was ease of maintenance and tuning like you said. Got the car for uber cheap but had to have it shipped from cali to texas because the state was going to crush it for not passing emissions.

Re: 84 1.1L stumbling
So just a followup post... I rebuilt the carb again this summer just because I wanted to do a thorough job, and she runs like a charm now. However, now when I start the car, white steam rolls out for a couple minutes until the car is warm. Also, the car will get really hot, then cool down, and do this on and off while driving. I'm pretty worried. Any ideas?
