Has anyone ever dropped the fuel tank of a '79 if so how do you get to the in-tank screen; I can't figure it out, and does anyone know where to find a diagram of all the fuel lines, I would like to try to clean it up a bit since I'm switching it to fuel injection, if possible.

Thanks, in advanced

Anything is possible.Isn't your tanks pump mount outside the tank?It should be fairly easy to swap in the SE pump.

I changed a sending unit / pick-up assembly in a 82 GS I am not sure this is what you mean ,but it is on top of the tank and has 8 or 10 machine screws holding it in. I had a bad time with the screws and finally drilled and tapped them out replacing them with something besides philips head screws. I also had to make a gasket to seal the unit to the tank, it was fairly easy just don't try it with over a gallon or so of gas, it gets hard to handle real quick with any more in it. Hope this helps, good luck.

This is where the normal sending unit and pick up is but this thing has no screws instead it seams almost to be welded with a rubber ring then the plastic pick up????

Damn I would swap a 81-85 tank in there if possible.I have to test my sending unit for the guage too.At least the newer tank is easy.Just unbolt the side plate next to the drivers side wheel then unscrew the sending unit assembly. :bigthumg:
