ok i have two but i will condense into one post

problem number one is that when i checked my oil today the level is perfect but the oil is very thin and black. its so thin that if it wasnt on the dipstick i wouldnt think it was oil. i just changed the oil about a week ago, maybe two, with fresh pennz 10w30, the car has 218k miles, and im not sure if the engine has been rebuilt or not.

problem number two is that when i went to check the oil there was a puddle of gas on the housing next to the oil neck. the gas is coming from from the pressure regulator control solenoid, does that mean the pressure reg is bad or the solenoid is bad?

the problem is answerd in your question, penzoil isnt the greatest in the world and 2 10w30 is too thin for a rotary. use valvoline VR-1 10w50 race oil it holds up much better in a rotary then any other oil out there that i have tryed. and i tried alot.

what year is this car. you know of the pulsation dampners leakin on the s4? if you got an s4 id check that if not try an injector gromit.

ive been using pennz 10w30 for my whole life, and ive been using it in my fc for 3 years with no problem.

for your other answer i think i will just disregard it. the solenoid thats leaking is on the drivers side of the engine, the pulsation damper is on the other side on the fuel rail.

oh the car is my 85 gslse

He is right though, about the oil, Pennzoil is the devil, worst oil on the market; I would use Castrol or Valvoline.

so the solenid should be fine? the car runs pretty well so it doesnt seem as bad as you make it sound, but ill replace it. im sure the dipstick smells like gas, my FCs dipsick always smells like gas and the oil in that looks great, i just thought thats how all rotaries were.
