oh...and wich spray foam did you use?
|
I wanted the flares to be ridged but still light. So I used 2 layers of fiberglass matt and brushed one a thin layer of resin.
They are vary light, and vary ridgid. I didnt throw them on a scale. If i was to guess I would say that they can't weigh over 3 LBS. each To help get the smooth finish on the fiberglass I used wax paper on top of the resin, and smothed all the air bubbles out with a plastic spreader. The last picture is of just fiberglass, But I did add a thin layer of bodyfiller the flarirs to find the low spots. I ended up sanding at least %80 of the bodyfiller. I used some "big gap filler" spray foam from homedepot. I don't know if its the best to use though. Oh ya.. if you rip the pieces of fiberglass up by hand instead of cutting them it seems to be stronger... |
i started making, or modifying my FC front bumper to fit my front mount. hopefully mine goes well. i'll try to get some pics up when im finished.

I saw a guy here on nopistons that fit a stock FC front bumper and fenders on a FB... no...i placed my front mount low on my FC for better air flow to the radiator and pretty much had to hack the stock FC bumper in half to fit it. so i was wanting to make the lower half of the bumper. didnt turn out to well. i didnt use spray foam cause that **** was $6 a can!!! damn! and i accidently got resin "jelly". the kind used for boats. that pissed me off. i tryed useing it anyways and it didnt turn out so great. its like spreading a mud pie. soooo heavy. i think i'll do it again, the right way. exspensive ass spray foam and the CORRECT resin here i come. i think i might just try and make the whole front end instead of trying to mate the fiberglass to the stock bumper. its urethane right? and i would loooove to see stock FC fenders and front end on a FB/SA!!!!! |
The "big gap" spray foam expands sothing like 10X it size... But it has some big pours in it when it cures...
One can of the "big gap" stuff is enough to do one of my flares and I cut quite a bit off.. I need to give the original spray foam a **** to see how well it expands and how pourus it is when cured.. Yeah the normal fiiberglass resin Is really thin and can be brushed on with a paint brush.. I'm going to bring some of my floppy discs to the library tomorrow, and see if they will let me load some pictures off them... |
oh...i thought i would need something like 10 cans. i woulda only needed 3 probley.
would love to see how you did the bumper too...hopefully you can load them up there. |
Well..better late then never I dug through a bunch of crap and found one air dam picture...
[attachment=43800:MY_air_dam.JPG] This is a picture of it right after I got it peiced together good enough to try and fit it on my car..... |
I was using a similar method to build a custom FC hood that fit my 20b... still working on it...
Looks great, it is inspiring to see someone build something custom and make it work! |
